Anti-freeze type and brand...

So I'm replacing the radiator in my kid's 2000 Limited this weekend. There seems to be a lot of debate about what type of coolant to use. Any suggestions besides the Toyota branded stuff?

What type of fluid is currently in it? If its the toyota red, Id keep in the toyota red. Currently my 99 has had the green stuff (with routine changes) for the past 100k. Just over 200k on the pump and no issues. Green stuff is good, just need to change it more frequently

Yes, as above. Stick to what's in it UNLESS you plan to do a very, very good flush. Then you could fill with whatever you choose. Don't mix even a little bit, a drain will not drain everything.

What's the aversion to Toyota red? Is it cost? It's really not much more expensive in my experience. Worth the peace of mind for me.

I buy the Beck Arnley red coolant instead of paying more for Toyota red, I’ve also used valvoline/zerex red coolant too. I don’t think these trucks particularly care just don’t mix colors.

I used Zerex Asian formula that I bought from my local Advance Auto. No issue to be had.

I'm tuned in for information as I have a new radiator sitting in my garage waiting to be replaced. Having said that, I must ask the forum...is it advised to perform an extensive flush (such as specific flush/cleanse products) or simply drain/flush with water and then refill? Thanks in advance.

I just replaced my radiator the other day. The coolant looked old and gross so I did a full flush with distilled water.
Put everything together but leave the thermostat out so everything circulates. Turn the heater on to get the heater core hoses flushed out too.
I did this 3 times till I ran out of water.
Draining the radiator the water was much clearer than before, but I'm waiting on a new fan shroud and new lower rad hose to finish it up.

I may do one more flush before I fill with Toyota Red coolant though.

I'm pretty sure the spec is silica free. The prestone yellow suits that spec. What I've been using since getting the first 3rd gen.
