Looking for anyone who may have shipped a vehicle overseas for use? Bought my 4Runner for this purpose and after months of waiting may be heading across the pond by end of November. Curious about availability of parts and such. Wondering also if they ding you if you ship stuff over as well when needed. May load up on stuff b4 hand. Thanks

Our trucks (or their mechanical cousins) are sold globally under various monikers (surf, prado, etc), so unless you have something super rare or very custom, you should be fine practically anywhere OCONUS that the military will allow you to bring your own car.
Re: dinging for shipping parts - yeah some places won't ship to an APO, and sometimes it does cost quite a bit more for larger items, but as long as you use USPS I don't think you'll have to pay a VAT or anything (I never did).
So, blanket statement, you should be fine but we'd need a little more detail about where you're going (continent is fine, if you're into the whole OPSEC thing) and what generation your truck is.

I'm a dod civilian that may be heading to Europe. Truck is an 01. I know cost more extravagant over there and thought of taking various things I have not installed on truck yet but don't want to get dinged. No time to get things done unless they put my leave date out farther so I would just send with my household stuff. Have talked to a couple friends at least who will ship what I may need depending on size at least. Had not thought of truck as being sold elsewhere under a different name, that will help if parts needed as well.

Shipping via USPS to an APO via flat rate box cost the same as shipping domestically it just took longer (and needed a customs form). Finding companies who will ship to an APO isn't impossible, but if you're planning to do big stuff (trail armor, tire carrier, etc) then I'd bring that stuff with you.
I had great luck with Ebay.de when I was there. Fitted my european car (US market) with all the euro goodies I could stuff on it and in it while I was there, all for a fraction of what it would have cost to get it in the US. Might want to think about that for your return trip if you have any friends with european cars...
Just hoping to avoid getting taxed but think it will apply to stuff in my HHG. Depending on timing may have to do suspension over there and timing belt which coming due in about 10K miles and bring all those supplies with. Still trying to figure out what I can bring. As for coming back if I go I will bring an import Honda XRV650 of which I have one already. Thanks for info
