Any Motorcycle riders on here?

i figured as much as we all like the outdoors with our Runners, some of us are bound to have bikes

i stepped away from bikes a few years ago before my daughter was born, and I'm going to jump back into it. unfortunately the extended vacation has caused the issue that I've discovered that i need several bikes to fill the gaps i have in my life. thankfully I've narrowed it down to two

Ducati Hypermotard SP 939 or a BMW R1200GS in black with laced wheels. i know, opposite ends of the spectrum - hooligan bike vs tourer. i have to say though, if i went with the GS id be lightening it as much as i could. removing center stand, rear pegs, cargo tray, rear seat, full akrapovič titanium exhaust etc. both id want to take on trips and obviously the GS would be better suited, but if i could get its weight down within 40-50lbs of the hyper, id go with the BMW all the way.

as it stands the Hyper is like 443lbs wet and the GS is 525 wet, and thats including the 6.5 gallons of gas the GS holds over the 4.2. so 82lbs different (quite a lot)

i know i know, roll your eyes because me trying to lighten the GS is laughable in itself. i just really like the GS's but i don't like how piggy they are - i know they can be made to be tossed around a bit.

i have no use for saddle bags or anything like that. all my trips would be lived out of a tank bag, a backpack and a duffle strapped the the tail

anyway, post up your shit - I'm just talking

I’ve been riding for close to a decade now. Started on dirt bikes and immediately fell in love with being on two wheels. Bought a CBR F4i back in 09, which was turned into a track bike. Picked up a 07 R1 few years later and was more than satisfied. It’s everything i want and more than what i need.

I’ve been down a few times. Even when wearing gear, it still hurt lol. I try to keep on a leash on the throttle now a days. Too many stupid drivers, and i’ve lost too many friends in the past. Now, it’s just therapy for the soul.

My experience with THIS forum is this is bait for some form of bashing/hate - of course I'm here with the TRDP so your experience may be different ;-)

i personally think you are going down the wrong path but I understand what you are wanting.

if your pockets are large, look for one of the HP2 Enduros, they had a SM kit that you could buy with it that was of course killer - can't imagine what they are going for now nor would I want to beat one up due to the rarity

other than that, if you're wanting a light weight off road boxer have you seen the R Nine T enduro??? or..... their are kits available to make an 1150 more dirt bikeish and lighter but its not a small bike

the HP2 enduros are outrageous, and the ones that aren't have had the shit beat out of them from what I've found - plus I'm not really fond of their looks.

i know I'm trying to make the bike do something its not supposed to and/or shouldn't. the size doesnt bother me, i just want it to be lighter. i don't need any of that extra crap.

i guess what my goal is is to have a bike that i can play with when i want, but is suitable for pounding out 500 miles a day without needing to take my daily limit of ibuprofen. if i could lighten up the GS to a reasonable weight, a full exhaust ontop of its already handsome 125 horsepower would be right up my ally.

google GS giants and see what those fools do with their pigs that they've added even more weight to with all the farkles - I've ridden lots of single track on mine - even though its a heavy bike its balanced soon nice

I've never heard of anyone "pounding out 500 mile days" on a GS - thats a lunch ride ;-)

i LOVE the way the new Thruxton looks however the updates or improvements kill everything that drew me to the bike to start with. I don't want radiators, ABS, active suspension, fly-by-wire, and all the other stuff. less is more. pure

i do hope the tank/fairing combo will retrofit to mine.

Have had a GSXR, a Katana, a HD Electra Glide Ultra Classic. I do not ride anymore.

There are too many people who are too busy to drive out on the road. Distracted driving is a epidemic here. Had a friend and his wife got hit broad side at 5 pm by a drunk that drove over them to try to get away. Don't need it anymore.

Still shopping for my 4th gen, but once it happens, I will be doing a lot more exploring out of the truck. Likely either pulling a small camper or a RTT. The good roads around here in Ontario are few and far between. And insurance is the prohibitive factor from far more comfortable bikes. There's a versys or FJ09 somewhere on the horizon, but the roads in PA/WA/Nova Scotia/Newfoundland are still an overnighter from home base.

If I needed two bikes to do it all I'd have a KTM 350 exc-f and a KTM 990 supermoto.

I just bought a new woods machine, '12 Husqvarna TXC 310 R, going to throw a head and tail light and a trail tech computer on it and use it for trail and dual sport riding.

I have a '10 Triumph Scrambler that's super kitted out, though I'm strongly considering upgrading to a Ducati 1190 hyper motard with off road tires, slid plate and some other hard parts to make my own super enduro. Photo of that Ducati I want to build included.

I had a couple bikes back in college, a Honda Shadow and a Shadow Spirit, but a Chevy Tahoe killed one bike and nearly me. Lost the other one to a frosty morning and slick pavement, and ultimately decided to walk away from bikes in general while both my legs still worked.

I was thinking about finding a beater TW200 somewhere and turning it into a fun little scrambler to cruise into town. Not surprisingly, the two people I already mentioned this to ridiculed me on the basis that those fat tire bikes are SLOW, but after two wrecks I'm not into speed on two wheels anymore. Just looking for a fun project bike I can ramble around on. Thinking something like this:

thats bad ass. i don't need anymore than 100 horsepower, i don't want to go fast - a bike is already fast as it is. have you seen the Honda Grom Scrambler?
