Any Motorcycle riders on here?

I'm 29 years old and started riding on a XR200 in 2002 at age 15. Graduated that from that to a CR125cc soon after and rode until 2005 when i left for college. Fast forward to 2012, i bought a CR250cc. First time back on the track, i tried railing a nice berm, jumped it and broke my femur and ankle. Sold it to pay for the $140,000 surgery, or at least the deductible. So, the answer, i used to ride.

08 cbr600rr sold put 20k miles on it in 2 years.

thats bad ass. i don't need anymore than 100 horsepower, i don't want to go fast - a bike is already fast as it is. have you seen the Honda Grom Scrambler?

yeah! That's actually where my search started. That bike looks awesome but being a concept that might not make it into production, I started to search around for smaller bikes I could turn into a scrambler myself. With a little more HP, I could take the TW200 on trails if I wanted to without redlining a 50cc motor and bottoming out the shocks on a street bike. And the price is right- I've seen a few TWs on craigslist for under $3k.

the street bike is a 2009 Kawasaki Concours 14, black...bags on, im a commuting droner bags off, and its a confortable ZX14-power for days.

the track toy is a 2000 Suzuki SV650, well monified with a converted GSXR 600 full race front suspension, 180/55 rear wheel conversion with Ohlins race shock. handles like a dream, but with just enough power to wash a load of laundry...ie, not much at all.

previous bikes, street and track 2000 Yam R6, 2001 Hon F4i, 1996 Yam YZF600R, 1999 Hon F3, 1994 Hon F2....

Have you considered a Yamaha FZ-09 or FJ-09? Both should save you some coin and provide plenty of thrills, plus ergonomic for the long rides.

I have to second the Yamahas . After coming off of a Triumph Daytona 675 (which is track-only now) I really wanted a Multistrada - something as fast through the canyons as the Daytona that was light years more comfortable. I didn't want to spend the money though.
After A LOT of research, I decided on aN FJ-09 and couldn't be happier. It's tons of fun in the twitsies, my wife is happy on the back and I just finished a one-day 500 mile ride up through the mountains and back along the coast on it. A ride like that would have destroyed me on the Daytona.

nice! I've been thinking about a new tiger myself. I've had several older ones then made the mistake of buying a GS. Never really been 100% happy with the BMW but its family now. But....... ;-)

I road dirt/dual as a kid, then cruisers as a young adult.

I made my first wife promise to never let me buy a dirt bike because I'd wind up killing myself having fun. I sold my last bike when my first son was about a year old; traded it for partial payment on a kitchen renovation.

My wife (not the same wife as when I rode) loathes motorcycles because her cousin died in a bike wreck, and her step-brother almost died in a different bike wreck. That, combined with the fact I like creature comforts more these days, tells me I'll probably never own another 2-wheel vehicle. If I want acceleration I'll get a little mid-life-crisis-style 2-seater roadster, and if I want open air while playing in the dirt I'll get an ATV.

That said, I do still keep the "M" endorsement current on my driving license.

google GS giants and see what those fools do with their pigs that they've added even more weight to with all the farkles - I've ridden lots of single track on mine - even though its a heavy bike its balanced soon nice

I've never heard of anyone "pounding out 500 mile days" on a GS - thats a lunch ride ;-)

Beautiful - that's my dream bike. I read Jupiter Returns (or whatever the guy's second book was). That was the same motorcycle he drove all over Europe. My back is jacked up (Army), so I had to sell my bike. But, I've wondered about the GS - how does it ride?

FWIW, my Sister crushed her L3, was nearly paralyzed, and now has a permanent brace screwed into L2 & L4. She is in some degree of pain all the time.

Six months later she bought her current R1200RT.

Most BMW Dealers allow test rides, see if a GS works for you.

Hate to resurrect a thread. But heck yeah I love motorcycles. Have owned a bunch in the past. But I am currently on an '06 Sportster and am in the middle of resurrecting a '79 Yamaha XS650 in the shop. Lots of great bikes in this thread.

Of no surprise here, I also ride a dual-sport, the purple one in the middle of this photo-- 1995 Yamaha XT350. Great little bike! I put 5,000 miles on it last season, mostly road use. I like it because the incresed suspension travel and semi-knobby tires allow me to do dumb stuff, like jump curbs and kill the neighbor's lawn.
