Any news on the 6th Gen?

I have a 2003 and I've been waiting for the 6th gen to buy new again. I may have to put a decent amount of money into this year come inspection time. I'm just wondering if I can hold off until the 6th gen. Has there been any news or pictures out there?

I am wondering the exact same thing and really want more info or even pictures/spy shots to make a decision on if I should wait for the 6th gen to arrive or jump on a 2015 5th gen!!

Don't hold your breath. The earliest I would expect a 6th gen would be 2017, and wouldn't be surprised if Toyota stretched platform a few years more.

Even then it might have stuff you don't want and surely don't need. I can see direct injection (gets things dirty inside engine) auto start stop, extra weight, smaller engine, independent rear suspension!

Well, sources I'm close to report that is won't have any 8 speed transmission, no direct injection, no turbocharging, no independant rear suspension.

It will, in fact, FLY!!!

If you Google-searched this in the 5th Gen forum, you'd find lots of chatter but no more real info than what [MENTION=78273]Jeremy556[/MENTION] posted. Noone who really knows the answer to your question is going to be talking.

But seriously, when news of a 6th gen comes out (whether it is introduced or not), this forum will be EN FUEGO about it.

I place the odds as favorable, but unless you are a Toyota insider, you will not know. I'll keep tuning in to autoblog.com to see any interesting blurps. I suspect in about a year we'll know.

I would think it would follow the lead of the 2016 Tacoma.
It seems that the new stuff comes out first on the Tacoma.
3.5L direct injection engine, 6 speed auto, redesigned grill and interior.
I agree that will will be out no earlier than 2017.
And I bet it will have more fancy amenities.

The word on the street is that it will he downsized to the size of the Cherokee and be unibodied with the four wheel drive system of the highlander and Rav4. Buy now while the 4Runner is still a 4Runner.....albeit hideous though -but still very capable.

If you like the front of the 5th gen, you'll probably love the sixth gen. My money is that they're gonna double-down on fugly. Four foot high grill and more chrome and plastic than your eyes can absorb.

I totally agree. I was curious what they would do with the Tacoma and I have to say that the front grille is way overdone and ugly in my opinion. I hope the 4Runner does not follow that. I liked the 5th Gen grilles/front in the beginning but they are a little bulky and overdone now too.

Yes, all that is a given. But will it get better fuel mileage? I mean, I want and NEED a big, heavy, capable truck, but if it won't get 30 miles per gallon I'll just get a CR-V instead.

In "Normal" mode it will get 45 miles per gallon but in "super economy" mode it actually gets negative miles per gallon, that is, it actually makes gas as you drive.

After about 400 miles you have to stop and pump the gas out or the tank will overflow.
