Anybody gone from steel front bumper back to stock?

My 3rd gen is now driven once or twice per year, my Shrockworks front & Savage rear bumpers are total overkill. I'd like to go back to stock, but I remember trimming the mounts for the stock front bumper and I suspect I'll need to do some custom work to get it back on, but I'm foggy on what I actually cut off.

Anybody on here gone back to stock, if so, what was required?

99-02 has a plate on the front of the frame rails that the crumple bar bolts to. Most aftermarket bumpers want this removed. If you took them off cleanly and kept them you can re-weld them back on and restore the crumple bar with factory connections. Otherwise, you might be able to jury-rig a new mounting system for the crumple bar assuming you kept it with the bumper.

There are pics of all of this stuff floating all over the 3rd Gen section under various threads, typically aftermarket bumper and lift install threads.

If you are removing the bumpers, I would assume that you are also selling them. If so, I would try to sell them to someone who would be willing to give you their stock bumper and hardware, mounting plates, etc... From there, you should be able to weld the mounting plates on and mount everything up. Win-win for you and whoever buys your bumpers.

That's a good idea, I still have the bumper & most hardware, but I'm pretty sure I tossed the mounting plates.

Damn the guy barely gets an answer to his question and the vultures are circling already. lol

OP, You got solid advice for the front. The rear will just bolt back on. Nothing needs to be modified with the Savage to make it work. I've got a full stock rear sitting in my van ready to haul to the dump. I can hold off if you think you might need the hardware. Let me know.

I opened a can of worms here! I still have both stock bumpers, I really appreciate the offer though. I remember the savage just bolts on, so that one will be easy.

To those interested in either bumper, it'll be quite a while before I can get to it. The 4Runner sits in storage out of town, and I only work on it when I'm bored on a slow weekend. I was planning on getting up there over Christmas break.

A fair amount of aftermarket bumpers for 99-02 require you to cut off the mounting tabs on the end of the frame rails so the new bumper can slide over it and then bolt to the frame rails.
Not sure about the Shrockworks mounting procedure tho.

I think yous be able to fit 96-98 bumpers with minimal modification. As other members have said 99-02s need the front plates cut off to fit aftermarket bumpers
