Anybody in Koreatown in LA? Korean resteraunt suggestions

So I found out I've got to go to LA :dammit: for filming on Penn Jillette's Directors Cut. I figured I might as well look at the bright side of a bad situation & hit Koreatown while I'm there. I was stationed , & contracted in Korea for 6 years & I definitely need a KyoChon & Samgyupsal fix! & my wife is going to want kimchi :wow: Anyone got restaurant suggestions?

You gotta try a Kogi taco! Frkn awesome! It's a food truck that moves around LA. There's a few of them. Go on their website to find out where it's gonna be. I thinks it's kogibbq.com It's a Korean/Mexican fusion that's ridiculously good. Only in L.A. !!! :cool:

I read something about that when I was looking up where KyoChon is, & I've gotta admit Kor-Mex sounds outstanding! Thanks for the tip!

Really? No s**t? Thank you so much for your helpfulness! I never would have thought to search the f'n internet before looking for insider information from people on this forum who live there & perhaps have Korean ancestry, who could turn me on to more traditional, or little known mom & pop shops that are more along the lines of what I'm used to. You are truly the wind beneath my Army Aircrew wings.

:lol: Captain Obvious responses always get me too for some reason.

I have ate at Road to Seoul and it's REALLY good, hole in the wall type place.

From a buddy whose a KBB connoisseur "I think this place is the best in Ktown is Choiganei 2"


Do report back where you end up going and how it was.

Outstanding, thank you! I'll let you know if we find a place that we'd say comes the closest to what our spoiled taste buds remember from living over there. I'm half tempted to go back to contracting over there just for the food. I know my wife & son wouldn't be against it.

Road to Seoul is really good, but this place called Manna is an AYCE KBBQ place that's actually in Little Tokyo and is absolutely amazing. And they have an AYCE Banchan Buffet!

Thanks! Another for the list. I don't know how long I'll be out there, but I hope to get some exploring in. I definitely have to stop by Johnie's Coffee Shop while I'm there as part of my "I grew up during the Cold War so I eat & breathe all things nuclear war related" cross-country tour. Perhaps I'll get a phone call from Chip.

There are better coffee shops to be visiting if you're in the LA area. Don't take the wife and kids though :hiding:

Head into Chapman Plaza (corner of 6th St and Alexandria) in the heart of K-town. Within the plaza you will have standard order by meal bbq, all you can eat bbq, and a couple other places fun for drinks (Gaam is a personal favorite). Essentially it's the most condensed experience and set of options you can get without trekking all over K-town (imo) and the closest to a night out on Seoul as described by Army buddies (one of which is originally from South Korea).

We flew to San Diego to picked up my '14 TP last 12/28. Since my wife has never been to LA we decided to stay a few days there before we head back to SF bay area. We kinda followed Anthony Bourdain No Reservation about Koreatown segment. We ended going to the 3 places. You can google them for the reviews.
