Holy shit those turbo Busas are insane!! I can't even imagine trying to hold on to one of those things at WOT!
The "local" mile event is the Mojave Mile. It's about six hours from me. Bill Warner still holds the record there.
Waiting to see when they post info about the next event. Sometimes there is one late in the year but I might have missed the one and only 2014 event last month. I'd also like to make it out to Texas for their event but that's a whole different ball game out there. Those TT Lambos would eat me alive!
For paved events, there's also Ohio and Loring. For unpaved there's also ElMirage. Most of my experience is at Bonneville. On the Salt you hold the throttle open for miles, vs accelerating up to a 132 ft speed trap, then slowing down quickly at the paved events.
The paved and unpaved events while both LSR, are different enough that I wouldn't compare the two types of venue.
The problem with the Salt is the lack of traction. Both of those bikes were geared for approx. 290 MPH. The problem is that aero drag becomes severe at high speeds. That black bike would hit about 250 MPH, and then it would just spin the tire. Nothing like having 40 MPH worth of wheelspin at 250 MPH.
Bill Warner was one of the guys I was referring too. I only knew him from a brief meeting at Bonneville years ago, but I followed his accomplishments with genuine admiration and respect.
Dave Owen was the other. I knew him much better. He was a guru in Naturally Aspirated Motorcycle LSR. His tuning ability for forced induction was also amazing.
Bill almost achieved his goal of 300 MPH in one mile, on a conventional sit-on Motorcycle. I believe he achieved 296 MPH, on the preceding pass before his last.
I'll be surprised if anyone ever exceeds his 311.945 MPH in 1.5 miles on a conventional sit-on Motorcycle record.
