Anyone 3rd gens have under seat subs?

I know this is a car audio question, but I am really curious how many of you 3rd gen guys out there have upgraded their car audio, but have not compromised their cargo space.

I use my cargo space on a daily basis and have no interest in adding a box with external amp. I'm looking for opinions on an out of the way, under seat and self amplified unit. I don't need to be heard from blocks away, as I am looking for better in car quality sound.

There are so many choices out there. I would like to hear from you who have run a sub this way and what you like and dislike about your "stealthy" systems.

Project no box has arrived!

It's been here for a couple weeks, but I'm finally getting time to put it in this weekend. It's not a huge brand name or anything, but for the price I got it for (under $150 shipped), I don't care.

No crazy bass pounding setup by any means. I had a factory 6" under my STi seat and that sounded just fine. This 8" will be even better.

Features:
-8" woofer
-self amplified
-300w peak
-adjustable bass control knob
-less than 3" thick
-out of sight, out of mind under seat mounting

I will be hooking it up through my rear speakers. Leaving the factory deck in place.

Which seats are you talking about? Because under the rear right is the little compartment for tools and under rear left is the gas tank. You might be able to pit something under the front seats. Maybe a 10" shallow mount under the drivers seat and an amp under the passengers seat. Or if you want the all in one like you mentioned there is a jbl enclosure that fits in that storage compartment in the cargo area. Let me see if I can find a pic.

ive never seen an under seat setup before, that would be a clean way to go for sure, but i have to imagine it would be a puny system since theres not much room under there at all. i put my small kenwood amp under the pass. rear seat and actually had to bend some of the jack mounting brackets away just to fit it in, very small space. myself and others have built boxes similar to the super pricey ones that go over the pass rear fender hump. mine extends no farther into the cargo area than the hump itself, so still completely useable, and that fits a 12" sub.

now these ones can get pricey. Best bet is to have someone build you a box like these. These ones have the amp in the box so its an all in one. And like you want, its not gonna wake the dead but just give you those deep notes.

Or if you want the best of both you can do what I'm in the process of doing which is building a shelf over my subs and attaching it to my roll bar.

Hey thanks for the quick responses. Let me clarify a little better here. I am talking about under the drivers side seat. It's the only place in the truck to do an under seat sub.
I have seen others do setups like your Whitson, but I'm often hauling wood and things that I would think would hit the sub seeing as it is exposed like that to the cargo area. I suppose an under seat sub would be "puny" as you put it, but I like the idea of have an all in one sub and amp. Less wires running from here to there and it really comes down to price and the simple fact that I have no clue how to build a box. I can only imagine what a box would look like if I made it myself..lol. Not great!
Plus, I don't know if I could live without that little storage space that your sub box would eliminate.

Tuscan... I like that idea, but I'm not that great with my hands. I could never pull it off and I'm really on a budget. That crazy stuff if for people like you and blcktpgsr!

i honestly dont think there is enought room for speakers under the front seats in my old 96 i had a 4channel amp and that was tight enough to get under there

I've already measured and both subs linked will fit under the drivers side seat.

dirtco has the setup I want.

My set up kinda looks like that, but without the roll cage. My subs sound good but every time we take a vacation and need more cargo room I have to take the box out. The amp is detached so I just put it to the side and unplug the speakers. I too with that there was a big space under the rear cargo area where i could make a custom formed sub box that didn't intrude into my cargo area.

Actually I can't really. It was in the truck when I bought it. PO says it sounded good. I bought the truck with a bad motor, I've never heard the stereo in it yet. I can let you know once I put the truck back together though.

My '99 has that JL stealth box pictured above. That sounds awesome.

Itll still shake my mirrors, but not obnoxious. Plus it comes with a wired remote so i can easily control the levels. And for $175 you can't beat the price.

Itll still shake my mirrors, but not obnoxious. Plus it comes with a wired remote so i can easily control the levels. And for $175 you can't beat the price.

I have the same one. Just installed it last week. It adds just enough bass to fill out the sound. For the size and price, it's very nice. And it fits perfectly under the seat.

I have manual seats. I'm not sure if it would fit under a power seat.

I have manual seats as well. But I do have the key fob unit under there. It's definitely a tight fit, but I got it under there. I also bought mine from Crutchfield. They usually have good scratch and dent models available for cheaper.
