Anyone else disappointed with the 2019 unveiling of the T4R

Looks like a few minor cosmetic upgrades
The Tacoma gets a snorkel and we're left with red letting on the skid.....
Is it just me or have we ALL been let down over the last 3 years. We're going from "trail" to"TRD OFF ROAD" and still no redesign

The option for SUV buyers is the 4Runner TRD Pro, which for 2019 adds a new roof rack, a front skid plate with red “TRD” lettering, and 17-inch alloys finished in matte black and wrapped in Nitto Terra Grappler P265/70R17 A/T tires. And like the Tacoma TRD Pro, the 4Runner also gets a standard JBL sound system. The standard powertrain here is a 4.0-liter V-6 with 270 hp.

According to the article, if I'm reading it right, they're switching from Bilstein to Fox as well as adding the JBL audio system.

Why would you be? They've been talking about 2020-22 being big years for redesigns and yet people think Toyota going to do a dramatic refresh only a couple years prior? Makes no sense haha. We aren't going to see anything major for a couple of years.

That snorkel would have been a cool option for the 4runner, but you cannot expect stuff like that on a 4runner since the major demographic that buys a 4runner are not off road enthusiasts. Out of 128k 4runners sold in the US 2017 (an increase partly due to lack of other options) less than 1% are going to fall into the hands of people who will mod them, at least until they are offered up for sale used. and of that 128k, you have lease vehicles and 2wd vehicles included.

Toyota has zero reason to pander to the off road market with the 4runner, we are statistically insignificant.

I guess there is a big enough market for “old school.” Disappointing to see Toyota milking these old designs for so long. They’re great vehicles but generations behind other manufacturers. The new JL wrangler looks awesome. My only worry, however, is that when they finally update the 4runner, it’ll price a lot of people out of the market. A fully loaded JL Rubicon unlimited is now around $55,000. The new 2.0 turbo option will be an additional $1000. Pushing $60K for Wrangler?

Was this JBL system the one from the Limiteds? Most people don’t like the 3.5L on the Tacoma. I was hoping atleast a refreshed infotainment. Oh well swap out for a 7” double din with CarPlay.

I'd bet the majority of Tacoma owners don't off road either. It's cool they're offering a snorkel, but let's be realistic, very, very few actually NEED a snorkel. I feel like I've pushed my 4Runner harder off road than most on this site (not in quantity of off roading, but difficulty) and I have zero desire for a snorkel.

Correct about the snorkel, and likely the reason the Tacoma gets one and we don't is because the Tacoma is made here and it likely makes stuff like this a little easier to do than talking Japan into making fenders with holes. lol

With 5th Gen sales doing so well there is no surprise. I am glad they came out with the info already and not make us wait until Dec '18 to get details. I am glad I pulled the trigger on a '17. The roof rack is ugly and so is the voodoo blue.

So they are running the same TRD PRO wheels, just with a lower offset? 1" wider stance?

2 things.

1. i would rather have the OEM AUDIO + system if i wanted a better sound systems over the JBL

2. is the fox suspension that much better then the bilsteins ?

Is that a new touchscreen? if so, that's the only substantive change here, being something that nearly every driver uses every day, unlike the rest.
