Anyone else disappointed with the 2019 unveiling of the T4R

King just doesn't do OEM shocks. And I think 99 percent of people would HATE how kings ride. They're progressive shocks and they ride stiff on road for the most part, but during high speed they're like butter.

Most people don't go off road and I think they'd hate how they feel.

I know, I was being sarcastic to joke about the crazy to me up charge Toyota does for the TRD branded stuff, like $1,700 for the Bilstein TRD setup. They are nice shocks, ride well on road and are plenty good off road for 90% of the 1% (throwing numbers out, put probably not far off) that actually take their trucks off road. I’m betting that the per unit cost to Toyota is very close to what the per unit Bilstein was, but they will be able to charge even more just on the Fox name alone. Smart business decision on their part. Related to that, funny thing about Kings, so many people buy them for bling and name and put them on mall crawlers. Hey, to each their own, and if you have the money why not. But like you said, they are build and valved for dirt and rock.

Sorry, I’m digressing.

Another year, more options

I'm not disappointed about another year of the same model features and drive train. I know with 10 years in production there will always be aftermarket products and OEM parts available for the 4Runner. There will be lots of mechanics who know how to work on them.
Look at how many advanced-feature problems the Jeep GC has had recently. And even the dealers don't know how to fix them. In 2015 when I bought my T4R the Jeep GC was getting bad reviews from owners.
Yea, we don't have a progressive 8 speed trans but maybe a 5 speed is better for off road crawling. I don't know? And less horsepower is more fuel efficiency. The downside of the Ford Raptor is the gas mileage.

It just reinforces my original decision in buying my '16 TEP new. There's no value add to me in having anything that has been shown in subsequent model years.

Everything is relative....my 4runner rides like a Caddy compared to my 1st Gen 4runner and PU with leaf springs and a lift! With Bilsteins and the lift I can cruise through stuff that would put my head through the Sunroof in my old Truck!:violin:

Imagine the TRD Pro came stock with the OEM Kings?! Now that would be a statement and a 10,000 up charge!

I actually like what Nissan is doing with their Titans. You can get a set of Icon's from factory. They're not calling it a package like the "TRD Pro" but just an added accessory that you can have installed by the dealer and it is still covered by the factory warranty. Looks like they're using the Icon 2.5 Remote Reservoirs with CDC Valve. Height adjustable too unlike any of the TRD Pro's. Just think, a Nissan Titan Pro-4X with Icons and the factory rear locker vs a Tundra TRD Pro with Fox shocks and doesn't have a locker for whatever reason. The Tundra TRD Pro has the glitz and glam of a package but the Titan has the fundamentals right. My only question will be how rebuilding the shocks will be handled.

Yeah, I can't wait to rebuild my OEM shocks every 15K miles! Neato.

I bet you wouldn't complain if it came with Kings though.

This keeps haunting my dreams... AEV did a really nice job with the new Colorado. Several auto and trucks shows rated it close, but better than the new Tacoma Pro.

I love my 4runner, but I'm not sure I would stay with Toyota if I were in the market for a fun adventure truck. Between the diesel Ram and Chevrolet options, it's a tough choice.

Okki

The ZR2 is way better than any Tacoma. The Tacoma is an old design. The Tacoma PRO is an appearance package with slightly better than stock shocks and a rear locker. The ZR2 has front and rear lockers, a diesel option, more power, way better suspension, better tires, etc...the zr2 is legit. And don't forget the Ranger is coming and so should be the new Frontier. Also the new GM half tons are coming and there is a new in line six diesel coming with that truck. Toyota is losing ground quickly. We will see what they come out with but they better hurry.

I would agree with you on paper they are a better truck BUT! as my last 3 mid size trucks were all chevy's, I would have to say put the crack pipe down. All 3 of them after 36k miles, monthly had something breaking on them and I take great care of my vehicles. My buddy who drives colorados for work complains nonstop about it too. What good are front and rear lockers if they aren't working or a diesel engine if all the fluids are leaking out? In my experience, Nissan isn't much better. Hopefully the ranger will be better. Granted I don't like the way the tacoma drives either and that is why I bought the 4runner but if I were to buy a mid size, the tacoma would still be in front of the colorado because I hate dealing with crap breaking. The trd might be a turd but the chevy mid size trucks are just plain sh*t.

Crack sucks! and did you have the old design GM or this new design? I heard the new design was good. But yes when it comes to reliability the Tacoma prob wins out. There are other things besides reliability to consider. The Tacoma ergonomics are bad. I have had 4 Tacomas and as mentioned, crack sucks.

I had the older ones but as far as the new design being good, I have to go with my friend who drives the new ones daily. He actually does say when they aren't broke down or getting something non vital to how they run fixed (which happened with me nonstop on mine, sun visors, ac's, door locks, automatic windows, ect., on all of mine more than once on each, try replacing ac's every 12- 13 months) he likes driving them. They drive 2016 and 17's with a total of 10 of them, and he's talked about every thing that I had a problem with in the past, they've had a problem with except they've had the problems much quicker as mine all happened right after the warranty ran out. They have had one truck need the motor replaced within just under 8k miles and two trucks have to have the transmissions replaced in under 20k miles. We both joke about how JD rates them best in initial quality. I spent much more money to buy a toyota, as my uncle was an executive for gm and he just sends me out the paperwork and the dealer has no say on the cost, hence my last 3 were gm's. The irony is he drives an f-150 lol. Trust me, I really liked the idea of the zr2! but I couldn't do it.

Not disappointed in the appearance at all. I may be all wrong, but doesn't the lack of changes in appearance make the current models hold their desirability longer. If a major facelift came out, I'm thinking some of us might be more interested in that upgrade. Wouldn't that maybe affect the value of 5th gen models. I've only been an owner of T4R for about 6 most, so its not like I know much. I really love my Pro though.

What's the point of internal bypass on a vehicle that will rattle itself to pieces at speeds and on roads where these shocks are beneficial?

I've owned three 4Runner's since 2003 and bought a used '04 Corolla in '06 for my step-daughter that we just sold later last year. The cornerstone of Toyota's brand is reliability. They're very conservative. The one thing I've learned over the years that they're one of the best car companies of dressing up that steady/reliable/plain core. Look at the TRD Pro -- it's a base 4Runner at it's core, about 80% basic 4R. But it looks a lot more badass -- the big reason I bought it. Yup, I'm shallow and a bit dim.

My point -- I didn't expect anything "huge" in the way of changes (especially performance-wise) for the unveiling. That will never happen. I know things will change one day, 6th Gen, but don't expect anything impressive in the way of performance. One of the things I like about this board is reading all the "what will come next" threads (V8, supercharger, diesel, etc) -- then reading the disappointment of many. It tickles me.

Straight from the JDP site... 90 days...

"The J.D. Power Intial Quality Study study measures car quality and gives ratings based on a survey of the problems owners experienced in the first 90 days of ownership."

"But it looks a lot more badass"

Different strokes, etc. To me it just looks like a 4Runner only a little bit plain Jane.

With 5th Gen sales doing so well there is no surprise. I am glad they came out with the info already and not make us wait until Dec '18 to get details. I am glad I pulled the trigger on a '17. The roof rack is ugly and so is the voodoo blue.

So they are running the same TRD PRO wheels, just with a lower offset? 1" wider stance?

Bump, not sure if someone answered this or not, but I was also wondering about the new TRD Pro wheels? Are they 16's now with a lower offset? It seems like they look different but that could be my tired ol' eyes.

I like the style of the 5th gen enough. It may lack some in power but who knows what the next gen could bring. Have a '10 TE and a 15 TEP w/kdss. Gonna trade the '10 for an'18 TRD OR w/kdss soon. My bigger gripe was renaming the trail and putting badges on it.
