Anyone else disappointed with the 2019 unveiling of the T4R

Interdasting.... Besides engine issues, I've seen a lot of people experiencing PTU, clutch and trans failures on the RS. I hope the same doesnt start creeping up on the new Raptors

I have no idea.

Two of my friends bought the new models.

I'm following their ownership experience closely.

I toyed around with the idea of trading the 4Runner in for a Tacoma a few weeks ago. Spoke with a dealer and had the perfect truck lined up. TRDOR DCSB in Cement with Premium and Tech pkg for a great price. Test drove it and I could not get over the powertrain. Gear hunts like a mofo and it has this really annoying drone, honestly sounds like a civic with a muffler. I also fiddled with the seating position quite a bit and just could not find the right comfort. As most have said when you sit inside the Tacoma it feels like you're sitting on a flat floor whereas in the 4Runner you feel like you're seated more upright and sitting in something. Dealer called me back to see if I wanted to go for a second test drive and I declined. Just didn't feel right sitting inside and driving the Tacoma. If the 6th gen 4Runner gets the Tacoma powertrain then I'll look into the 2019 Ford Ranger or whatever the next GX460 is.

Get the manual trans. No issues with the manual if you go that route and a blast to drive but the auto is a horrible combination with that truck.

I kinda want one, but with the issues I've seen people having with the Focus RS I'm reaaaaaly weary of the long-term for that power train.

I dont dislike the Voodoo Blue. And the roof rack doesn't bother me. And I'm really not a sunroof guy.


So did I hear the Fox suspension will sit a bit higher?

I will be disappointed if they do not bring some new colors to the lineup (might as well since nothing much else is changing)

I'd also like Toyota to offer a driver support package model on the Limited (similar to the GX Premium) that includes MTS and CC.

Do we think it is safe to say that safety sense will not be on any of the 2019 trim levels?

Not sure if the lack of a safety sense announcement in this TRD Pro model means it is definately not coming. That is the only think holding me up from buying a 2018 model.

I don’t think their safety sense will be in this generation 4Runner. The design is probably too old for these safety features. It may be available in a 6th gen if/whenever there is one.

I’m curious what Toyota will do about selling the Bilstein TRD suspension vs the Fox suspension. Bilstein price drop? Fox more expensive and only after Bilstein sell down a little?

I am eager to see the pricing/specs of that new FJ roof rack though. If it's cheap enough I'd easily go for it instead of the current aftermarket offerings.

Maybe I missed something but I don't see any off-road capable SUV on the market except 4Runner, Jeep Wrangler and Mercedes one which is too expensive anyway. Personally I don't mind technology and all new stuff in new 4Runners, but not at the cost of reliability, off-road capabilty or price

I am about to get a trd 2018 I was thinking to wait for 2019-2020 to come out but honestly I would not want a tranny that’s hunts for two many gears and all the proven 4.0makes me likely

Check out OEM Audio+. I just did a personal install of their Reference 500Q and the sound quality is superb. 8 speaker swap plus an 8in sub that doesn't compromise any trunk space and it's all plug-in-play.

I've been following that thread. Their stuff looks top notch. I haven't grown tired of the existing system in the 4R yet. It's a giant upgrade over the shitty oem system i had in my subaru forester that I replaced with the 4R.
