Anyone else disappointed with the 2019 unveiling of the T4R

Sure 5th Gen 4runner started in 2010, and then was changed to 5.2 in 2014 with new front bumper/fogs/etc ..I would say that giving the Tacoma the 6th gear with the same engine, over any change in the 4Runner with the same engine/needs, is definitely favoring the Tacoma. It's an easy change to make in the production line, if it offered an improvement (which I assume is why they did it in the Taco), so why not also make the change in the 4Runner? Lazy, cheap, or both?

Correct. As was the Tacoma in 2012. New bumpers, headlights etc. the Tacoma had the 4.0 motor or before the current generation with the 3.5 and the 6th gear. I’m sure that’ll be in the next generation 4Runner. They’re not going to make the production change like that and the evidence shows that. Easy or not for them they’re not going to do it, why would they? Sales are the best they’ve been.

I did hold out for a 2019, hoping that at least a few items would be offered even as an option.

1. Brake assist. I have a teen
2. Blind side warning
3. JBL as an option on the ORP
4. Updated nav/infotainment system with Car Play.

Alas nothing. By the time I was sure I was a little late to get what I wanted in a 2018. Now waiting for early spring to be able to get a deal again.

The silver lining

The ability to change and upgrade the head unit is a big deal. We have a car that you can’t change it out. Super dated now, hate it. So many great options for the 4R

Electrical. Less is more at this point as far as I am concerned. Last two BMWs major issues, first one was so bad that BMW crushed it and gave me a new car. Now an MDX that has various elec. gremlins (infotainment, shocks, bluetooth, memory settings, etc).

We have 2 BMW's with auto wipers a 2009 and 2017, you can absolutely turn the feature off.

On a 2016 bmw m235xi you cannot. The intermittent is rain sensing and then you have low and fast. thats it. you cannot control the intermittent wiper speed yourself. Nor ca you 100% turn it off. I spoke to several shops that specialize in BMW coding/tuning and every single one said they cannot do it or they might be able to do it but would need my car for a while.

As a note, everyone says the T4R's lighting sucks yet... theres a whole lot of other cars out there that are way worse. the 4runners lighting is not bad. Sure it's not gonna be as good as a merc/bmw/audi's lights but that's also cause we're not buying them. People have to remember that we're buying a Toyota. Toyota has Lexus for all the fancy shit that they sell for more money. They keep them separate. Sure, give it to us as an option or upgrade but making it standard makes no sense from a financial standpoint. How man times have you told someone who wants a more luxury ride to go buy a highlander over a 4runner? Yea, you want better lights, go buy a Lexus. While it sounds shitty, it makes complete sense from a business standpoint.

Ancient ass wheezy engine and clunky 5 speed with no real highway gear.

I’m supposed to believe this is for the sake of durability when the GX and TLC get V8s and do just fine.

Just make these an option so the crowd who loves the slow ass drivetrain can be happy and party like it’s 2003 all over again. I’m sure a 2-3k drivetrain option will be a drop in the bucket for people who pay 60k for a TRD Bro.

Can’t afford 3k on an engine, but look at my 12,000 worth of mods on Instagram!!! There’s a refugee tent on the roof!
