Anyone get much past 300k on a 3rd gen 4runner?

My 99 Limited has 383k and still going strong

When we bought ours at O'Brien Toyota in Ohio. They had a 99 with 776,xxx miles on it with the original engine and transmission.

How long ago was this? Bob from Texas has 750K ish on his '99 Limited. That was the highest mileage one I've heard of until now.

Thanks to all the great advice here, chances of making it past 300+ are getting better and better.

I see them on craigslist from time to time. 300+ miles, good compression, no leaks, no smoke.

yeah i have never seen or heard of a timing belt breaking on one of these. what gives out is typically the water pump. and to remove the water pump you have to remove the timing belt...

fyi these are noninterference motors-5vze (v6)

Guy I worked with had his timing belt break on his T4R 5vzfe. His fault, he never changed it. Had well over 200k+ miles.

I don't think I would ever replace the timing belt on these unless I was already doing something that had me removing it like changing the water pump. If it were an interference motor I would but one of the reasons I bought this truck is because it is a non interference motor.

Sounds to me like he saved over $1000 in unnecessary maintenance since he didn't changed it at recommended intervals. lol

It was the beginning of August this year. We were told they didn't plan on getting rid of it. They wanted to keep it on the showroom floor to show off.

I have 327,000 and change on mine a 1998 limited and I am in the middle of a complete front end rebuild/re-gear/updated rear suspension/new leather/new lights/roof rack lights etc....somewhere to the tune of 6k or more....I bought it new off the lot and it has been bullet proof with solid maintenance. I plan on keeping this thing forever even when I do buy a new vehicle in 5 yrs or so. Best vehicles on the road!

Mine is at 299k and I don't have a problem with it except for some maintenence that was neglected by my grandmother.. But it runs and drives beautifully after the tune up

my buddy has 340k+ on his 98 and it is still running like a top. He paid 500 for it and it has been rolled 2 times since he's owned it lol.

Mine is at 320k - runs OK but feels super weak. It has 33s but my previous 3rd gen had 35s and still seemed stronger. Also only get 15mpgs. Does it sound like it's just getting worn out? I've kept up with all general maintenance & when I changed the vc gaskets not long ago I was suprised at how clean it was inside. Not trying to hijack anything - just wanted some advice from the high mileage guys

You've got problems. Is your check engine light on? I average 17 around town and I drive it like a racecar. I get 20+ on highway trips if I keep it under 70. I've also got 358k on the original motor and trans. I have a 1.5 lift which on a Highlander makes it pretty tall.

I bought my 02 4R Sport 2 years ago with 84,000 on the clock. I change the oil every 3000 miles and take very good care of it. I owned my last vehicle for 17 years and I'm planning on running my 4R forever.

My head gasket went at 175xxx which is very odd. Happened two months after I bought it. I think the guy new it had a problem. I suspect he probably had put head gasket sealant. Anyways, now I have a jdm with 70k , I get around 100 half a tank and 200 on full tank with 33" that are d rated. What you guys think ?

Also my maintance:
New timing belt kit
New plugs
New wires
New valve cover
New front and rear main seal
New radioator
Toyota coolant
New battery
New upper lower ball joints
New tie rods and other stuff
New transfer case and rear diff fluid
New alligment.

I change oil every 3000-4000k castrol gtx dino

I love my truck babe it everyday, drive it on highway almost everyday 65-70 mph 50-70 miles daily.

That seems like poor mileage to me. On a full tank and city/highway driving I usually get around 300-320 before the light even comes on. Last tank after factoring tire size and all I got 22 MPG, no lie. A majority of that was highway, but the worst I've seen yet is 18 on a tank unless I do some wheeling, then it starts dropping.

I'm at 297k on mine, allot of the car is original besides the usual swaps.

I don't understand then why I get such low miles.per gallon, the tires are heavy as crap. D rated, which is over kill for the truck. It has new oem air filter. My motor deff isn't dieng or close to dieng. Can it really be the tires eating up so much gas?

My 3rd gen 4runner is at 301k and am doing some minor repair( just cause I want to) but no engine or tranny work.
My pops 3.4 Tacoma is at 380k and still a daily work truck
Good engines I say.

It seems as if m and you both get same mpg, I also have stock rims but with 33" all terrain falkens. I highly doubt something is wrong with the engine.
