Anyone get much past 300k on a 3rd gen 4runner?

I've just passed 325,000. Replaced the timing belt, charcoal canister and trany flush after a pink milkshake some 100k ago. Otherwise it runs great.

My 00' ltd has 124k on it and I only get about 16mpg as well. I attribute this to a weird commute on a road with a 35-35 speed limit and its all hills. On the highway I get better, about 18-20 though. I plan to keep this truck forever and because new car prices are insane as well as high property tax and insurance, I don't worry about putting money into it as the years go by...Nice to read about so many others in the same deranged state of mind!!!

It seems like every time one of these 300k+ miles threads pops up there are a bunch of guys posting their mileage that isn't even past 200k. These always turn into a "how many miles do you currently have?" thread.

yeah if you dont have 250k or more, then dont bother telling us your runner is still dragging its placenta around...

I am looking into buying a 4runner off craigslist (or dealership if I can find one, not much around Philly). But every one I see has a high mileage or not enough info about the car itself. Was hoping they'd talk about if all the parts are original or when a new timing belt has been put in. Since I can't start a thread yet, what are things to look out for in a post like this, are the miles too high?

The newest 3rd gen is at least 15 years old, which means you are likely looking at multiple owners, which means you won't have great records. My biggest piece of advice, if you are planning to make a move soon, is to buy the unlimited 3 mo. carfax subscription. You should get so many VIN #'s to run, but unlimited License Plate #'s...so if they have a plate run the plate, if it is at a dealer, ask them for the carfax first and then run the vin if they don't have it.

I have three 3.4L 5VZ, I love these things. I've owned one since it has 69k on the clock, and bought another with 235k on the clock, and all of the engines and transmissions have been smooth. Obviously other stuff starts to wear, but the major components give me a lot of faith in my rigs...I'd drive any of them across the country tomorrow if I had to.

350k+ on mine, original motor, and trans in it. It was basically stock(minor cosmetic alterations) until I got it @200k from there came bigger tires and a lift and then armor... She still pulling strong today. Just keep up on the regular and preventative maintenance and you should be just fine and trouble free.

333k and it runs great. I have replaced all the bushings in the front and rear end recently and it feels brand new.

LOL, yes the mayhem has just started with me too :bounce:

Just past 354k as I was going over Snoqualmie and Blewett Passes. Original engine, trans, and all running gear other than what I changed for a SS1.2 lift.

Gets me to places like this with no problems

436k on my 99. Aside from regular maintenance, only real repairs have been a bad injector, fan clutch and alternator. Original engine and trans.
