anyone have a surefire e1b?

Im thinking of getting a surefire e1b, i really like it despite the price because as long as I dont lose it i think its worth the premium.

my biggest thing is that the tail cap is exposed so i fear it just getting hit on and killing the battery or getting hot (though it is LED so it prob shouldnt get too hot)

I like everything else about it, but for the price that one thing might be a deal killer.

my only thinking is perhaps the tail cap from the e2d defender flashlight would fit the tail end of this one? I know this one has high and low output (another selling point)

anyone have any experience or even recommendations of comparable flashlights?

I've got a drawer full of "free" Harbor Frieght LED flashlights.

I've had an E1B for a while now - love it, and haven't had any problems with the uncovered tail cap. Mine lives in the center console and it doesn't seem to have any problems turning on when I don't want it to...or at least the batteries aren't dead whenever I pull it out to use it.

I have used the surefire Aviator, G2 and carry a few other versions of Surefires. All of my surefires the exposed tail cap just requires a half turn and it locks out the push button function. Half turn back and push button works, another half to full turn and locks on the light. The push button is for intermitent(only while depressed) lighting to "flash" an area and not as a toggle on/off like on a Mag light or other. Not sure I really explained it properly but hopefully it made sense to you.

Just noticed this is the dual output light and tailcap operates differently. I still wouldnt worry about it though. You can also get the Z68 tailcap that has lock out feature and also shrouds the button.

do u really need that for that price? im rocking those ultrafire brand led flashlight, cheap and it works great, using a 502b with 2 lc16340 battery and a solarforce led cree r2, rated at 300lm, the one that came with the flaslight decide to give up,so i had to buy a new one, i spent about 35-50 bucks all together for 4 batteries with charger, and flashlight. give one of those cheap light a try, the 14500 battery size (aa) led flaslight might be as bright if not brighter than those too, a 18650 battery size flaslight is a lil more bigger and brighter.

E1B and E1L user here, plus a bunch of larger surefires/streamlights/etc. I like the E1B for its dual mode, and the E1L for its fit and finish. Don't recall either being toggled full-on in my pocket, but have had that happen when carrying them in bags.

I carry a Coleman XR-C flashlight.
It is similar to the E1B, (less lumens) but 1/10 the price.
90(the old ones are 75) lumens, 3 AAA batteries and a tail cap ridge so it doesn't turn on in my pocket. $18 at Walmart
I use it all the time and the rechargeable batteries I use last 2-3 months.

Nice thread. I love my SureFires! I’ve definitely become a SureFire fan in the last few years. Before that, I mostly had Maglites, my favorite which I still use today (the ONLY Maglite I still use today), is my big rechargeable Maglite. Nice & bright, and keeps a charge for a long time. I stopped using my other maglites when I got my first SureFire a couple years ago, which was a C2. Since then I’ve gone through quite a few. One of my favorites for work was my A2 Aviator, & actually my G2Z was nice & light to carry with, & very bright.

Then I just started buying them because they were a little different than the others I had (kinda like how I started collecting knives). I sold a few and now the SureFires I have left include an E2D Executive Defender, two E1E Executive Elites (small single cell – but VERY bright), two G2 Nitrolons (lightweight inexpensive & bright), a G3 Nitrolon (3-cell, even brighter than the G2s), G2Z, and I have an L2 LumaMax dual-output light around here somewhere. I snapped a picture of the ones I had here in my office with a couple accessories.

The only thing I don’t like about the SureFires is how fast they burn up the 123 batteries, which aren’t cheap. So another flashlight I’ve become fond of is the Inova T4. It is a Lithium Ion Rechargeable LED Flashlight with 175 Lumen output. It has a 4-way switch too (high power, low power, strobe, and momentary on/off). This is the flashlight I’ve mounted in my 4Runner. I keep it in back plugged into the power receptacle. I also bought a second one for the house. It's become my go-to flashlight.

Anyway, whatever SureFire you get, you’ll most likely be happy. However, you may want to choose an LED model as the runtime will be longer.
