Anyone know what's behind the OEM tape on frame near radiator?

I'm planning installing rock lights, primarily for ambient light when dispersed camping, with a small but non-zero chance I might want to use them on the trail at some point in my life.

So I'm looking for locations to mount them, ideally with a bolt (though I may have to do 3M tape or a magnet in the back).

Up front, there's not a lot of great options I can see. I did notice these three pieces of tape/stickers on the bar that holds the radiator (I think).

They kind of feel like they have a hole behind them. Anyone know for sure? And if so are they threaded? It would be a reasonable spot in that it's in front of the wheel, out protected from rocks, etc.

I could rip off one but it seems like Toyota felt it important enough to cover up what's there, so I thought I'd ask the community first, since someone here always seems to know the answer. Thanks!

Hmm... they don't look like 'Toyota' stickers to me. Heck just peel them off and see whats behind.
Did you buy your rig used ?

No stickers on my 4Runner. Bottom hole is threaded, about 10MM. The upper two holes are not threaded. My guess is the factory puts stickers on the holes for some vehicles to keep mud and water out.

Thanks for the info. Bottom hole it is then. Yeah, I bought it new (2019) so the stickers are definitely from the factory.

Same. Bottom hole is threaded on my 2018. Might be just what your looking for!

I would guess they are to keep water out of holes that are there for other J150 vehicles, or used in the manufacturing process. They don't look very "factory" though, I'm curious now and will go see what mine looks like. My 3rd gen has a bunch of plugs sealing up various frame holes but they are mostly plastic and look factory. Maybe those are stuck on state-side when they add whatever options for the vehicle.

8 don't have any of those stickers in the same location on my 2018 but I did notice similar stickers over holes in the bottom side of the body when I removed my OEM steps and installed my sliders. Looks like it is just there to keep stuff out of the holes.

Do not remove those...that tape is made out of carbon nanotubes and protects the Flux Capacitor from solar flares.

I was under my T4R yesterday and yes, they are on the same location on both sides.... they look like your photo.

For people that end up reading this thread later - they are actually M12 - 1.25, not M10.

I'll write up the install on a separate thread, but I verified the above tonight with some M10 and M12 bolts.

Logically, they are probably fitted to certain delivery markets? Maybe wetter/snowier areas? The threaded hole was probably initially supposed to mount something but engineers changed it for some reason we will never know.
