Anyone succeeding in finding lower mileage 4th gen 4Runners for sale?

i have a 2007 with about 260K. don't really like the 5th gen appearance, but the last 4th gen. year was 2009. Happy with the v-6 sr5 4wd version. Wondering if it is getting really hard to find 4th gen models with low miles (sub 100k).

Yes, it is. But there are 4th gens for sale on here regularly and there's nothing wrong with one with over 100K on it.

100k is not a hard line, but my own experience is things start to wear out after 150k and repair expenses escalate.

Not in a 4runner lol.

My only concern would be frame rust. Other than that you might need to think about:

- Brake accumulator
- Fuel pump
- Water pump / thermostat
- HVAC evap
(brakes and suspension don't count because they are cheap, easy, and long-lasting)

but that is mostly it and none of these are really that big of a deal. evap is the worst of the bunch--probably the worst item on the entire car to replace.

I think in a bunch of cases, age reflects more than mileage on issues. Seeing you don't want a 5th gen then you are limited. As you can see by the production numbers below, 2009's are a small lot of those made.

Low mileage could have just as many things wrong as high mileage, rubber hoses and seals wear out over time. With the premiums people charge for low mileage I wouldn't touch one.
Best bet is to buy mid mileage and plan on preventatively replacing everything with the money saved.

How do we feel about paint going bad on hood and roof, when buying older 4runners?

How much should it knock of the price, assuming no frame rust and everything running good.

i just picked up a 1-owner dealership-serviced, northern-california 2UZ 2006 w/ 145k miles

fantastic condition

saw some lower mileage ones out there but some of the asking prices were ridiculous

thx. i tend to prefer private sales, though i feel those are getting harder to find. i believe more people are trading in or selling to businesses like carvarna.

I think on these vehicles, as long as proper maintenance was done, and they don't look beat to heck, that mileage shouldn't matter.

Pookie has 310k on her clock and still looks and drives better than most of the 5th gens we hang around with. Also burns less oil and actually gets better mpg too!

Just check for rust, check out the bearings, look for leaks, inquire about the timing belt change frequency (v8), really get into it and under it to do a good inspection.
