Anyone try using a Keurig coffee maker?

My wife and I take a small, regular coffee pot camping and power it off the 110 that came in the 4Runner with no issues. Well, except for the fact that when the 4R isn't in drive the plug shuts off automatically after a few mins...no biggie though.

That's sounds like a sweet setup, and I myself considered using my built-in 120v outlet on my ORP to do the same with my Keurig- but there are a couple of thoughts I have on this.

First, the Keurig requires extra water to be in the reservoir at all times- it won't allow you to just add the water needed for that cup, it demands extra water to be in the tank. So, your 10 oz coffee requires at least around 24 oz in the reservoir to let you brew it.

I just last week gave away a 12v percolator that I picked up from a Love's Travel Stop, in Arkansas, but TA Centers should have them too. I cannot recall the name, but it was basically a carafe style perc, with a heated bottom but with a cig lighter plug. Said it took about 30-45 minutes to properly heat and bathe the grounds, so while not fast it could be okay for long drives. It was also suitable for heating soups and whatnot.
I wish that I had either used it to give you more details, or still had it to give to you!
I do recall that it was about $50, and looked like a slightly bigger Thermos. Had a bracket to allow you to hang it from a vet, but could be held up in other ways too.

For those who like espresso, I have the Wacaco Nanopress with the barista add on for a true double espresso. The thing does 18 bar and basically the same cup of espresso as my home machine. I've since abandoned my aeropress. For camping just get a jetboil like [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] mentioned or a cheap travel 12v water kettle.

I just got back from a week long trip and I'm super happy with the purchase. We used both a jetboil and a 12v kettle. 12v kettle just took a little longer to heat up.

Keurig is 1 1/2 minutes for BREWED coffee, not just hot water, ready to add coffee, wait, then press. But the Jetboil does potentially look like a smaller stored package, depending on if you bring spare fuel cans. If I was still into backpacking, I'd seriously consider one. I'm getting old, and RVing is more my speed...

Where the hell do you guys have to be a 7am in the wilderness that 2 minutes makes a huge difference?

I see no reason to rush a good cup of coffee in the morning, especially in camp. This all packs up tight, and the coffee is excellent. Plus the filter (paper) and grounds can go in the same hole as... well you fill in the rest...
