All the trails listed here you are good to go and these will take you to all the popular attractions...
The only one you need to stay off of is number 7 Pinyon Mountain I repeat do not attempt. And below is a map to match up the trails listed. Enter from Hwy 78 ocotillo wells turn onto Split Mountain Rd take it all the way to the end you will a sign on your right at the trail entrance to split mountain and Fish Creek Wash just before that sign about a quarter mile there will be a sign on the right for Elephant Knees trail turn off you can enjoy that as well. http://www.desertusa.com/anza_borrego/abphoto/ABDSPmap.pdf

It was fun, those mud caves are amazing to explore. Didn't get too many pictures wheeling since I was driving. We also did get some rain at night which just added to the fun.

I was curious if you got any rain down there. It really must have made it that much more enjoyable.
I got this book way back in 2005/06 (the name escapes me right now..."backroad of Southern California" or some thing like that) when I first got my 05 4R 2WD. I stayed on the mild, easy trails (e.g., Fish Creek) and never had any issues. I mean I've seen a Miata on these trails so I'm not expecting any problems. Always had a good time out there. Anyway, I was recently thumbing through it looking for some trails since I got the new rig recently. Looked like further South there are some pretty good, moderately-rated trails. Those piqued my interest and I was hoping to stay overnight while out there. Then as I was reading the trail description it warned of having to be careful because those trails are closer to the Mexican border so there's a higher likelihood that you may come upon border hoppers. Yeah....so still mulling over the overnighter. I got a good chuckle out of it though.
