What tasks are people using their phone for that would demand such high processing/graphics performance? Doodle Jump? The VR phone fad doesn't count.

None of my Android phones (Razr M and LG G4) have ever felt slow at any time, I guess my most demanding usage comes from Google Maps or occasionally taking videos. I shut my phone down once a month to clear the RAM but that's about it. I would say I follow the typical usage scenario for a phone.

Having the highest benchmark score on a phone shouldn't be a concern for most every consumer, but I guess it's just bragging rights for consumers to use and a selling point to get people to upgrade their phones.

I'm all for having more horsepower when you need it, as long as it throttles battery usage when you don't. I'm guessing Apple's software plays nicely in that regard, probably a lot better battery life per performance than any phone out there. But for $1000...

Also my mom had an iPhone 5 from 2012 and according to what the Verizon employee said, it was running slow and glitchy because she updated to the most recent iOS (sometime in 2016) which her phone's hardware couldn't handle... Never had that happen with my Androids, that was a good way to get her to buy the latest apple product...

About time Apple moves away from the crap tiny screen... even if it is only on their flagship model. Might have had the high-end processor but who the f cares when you can't see anything on their phone anyways.

The 5th gen 4runner is closer to taking that prize. I paid $200 for my phone exactly a year ago. I don't feel a need to spend $1000 to have the latest and greatest when I can wait 1.5 yrs and get it 80% off.

AR = Augmented Reality. It is much much more than Pokemon Go...google it...there are plenty of useful/practical things that AR can do.

Bootlooping is a HARDWARE problem with most of LG's (and some other Android) latest devices, including your G4. There are many class-action lawsuits regarding this, including one for your phone. Your G4 was the first one i think that started the boot loop phenomenon.

iPhones don't need to "shut off" device to clear RAM. That is a function of Android's piss poor memory management. I bet that you do more than shut off your phone...you have to reset it!! Been there done that with Android.

No, the processor does more than just launch the camera app! The iPhone is able to look at the scene/person that you're aiming camera at and recognize what you're trying to photograph via Artificial intelligence. It then adjust everything in the camera to give you the best picture possible. All done in real-time and in milliseconds!! This requires a lot of horsepower. For example, it recognizes the flower that you're trying to take a pic of. It then adjust exposure, focus area, etc. Or if you're video taping a guy running across the football field. It sees the guy and focuses automatically on the guy across the display and adjust settings to focus on that guy.

Also, with the newer Portrait modes, you need super intelligent chips to do REAL-TIME processing so that you see what it looks like before you press shutter button.

Gaming on phones are a BIG thing. Modern Combat, Real Racing, Gangster New Orleans, etc. are huge games that require lots of processing power. Just because you don't play them does not mean that they don't exist!

Video editing...again, that is huge especially with phones now able to record 4K video. Again, just because you don't do it does not mean that others don't do it.

For what you need, a flip phone is just as good...but just don’t assume the rest of us need the same!

Huh? Sacrifice in the present? If you cannot afford $999 over a 3-5 year period, then something is wrong with your finances...in which case, a flip phone is the best...maybe Obamaphone!

You don't need a 4runner. You can buy an even older 4runner for cheap that will do the same. I can build a Jeep for a lot cheaper than your 4runner. The arguments can go round and round.

You paid $200 for your G4 a year ago...you overpaid for a POS phone that will boot loop soon. Bootlooping is inevitable with your G4...it is a HARDWARE issue that will affect every G4 phone. And once it does that, it is a brick...a $200 brick! Good financial decision dude!!! LOL

Her iPhone 5 lasted 5 years from time of introduction. As noted in my post above, if she had gotten the 5s, her phone would still work now and into the future.

Why would iPhone boot loop??? It has NEVER done it. Your G4 and other Android boot loops because of shitty hardware...some argued crappy memory module or something.

I helped her set it up and I do not miss the iPhone platform. I've had multiple iPhones and a few Androids, and I'll stick to the Android.

I am switching to an S8 from the iPhone 7 Plus however, fact of the matter is there are some things iOS just does better.


1) Battery life. I had a regular iPhone 7 before switching to the Plus and it's battery life was better than my S7 Edge.

2) Sound Check. I store all of my music locally on my phone and do not use streaming services. Apple's sound check is a godsend for my songs that have varying levels of volume between them. Android can't do this in any capacity that comes close. For those of you unaware, Sound Check makes the volume equal for all songs.

3) Performance. iOS does not lag for me. And as much as Android fan boys hate it, Apple's chips tend to dance circles around Qualcomm and Exynos chips. I like my Samsung's but that "Samsung lag" is always present in some form. I don't like stock Android phones but I imagine they are much smoother.

4) Stereo Speakers. Don't knock them til you've had them. They really make listening to media without headphones more enjoyable. I'm hoping Samsung hops on this train soon.


I find myself missing Android at the end of the day though. Managing files and music is much less of a hassle with an Android phone and I like customizing my phone more than iOS allows.

Are you running iOS 11? There is now a Files app for your file management. Music is a closed system though.

I switched to an iPhone 6S+ about six months ago. First time with iOS. Previous device was a Note 4.

The only thing I miss about the Samsung is the quality of the camera. Apple's camera simply isn't as good. The HDR mode isn't as effective, and it locks you into a 4:3 aspect ratio. You cannot directly modify the resolution and aspect ratio of the camera like you can with an Android phone.

Everything else is better. All the apps simply have a more polished, cohesive feel. The most significant productivity enhancement is the touch sensor. It greatly increases the capability of the phone. It makes accessing apps that require passwords much easier to use. I realize Android supports fingerprint sensors, but perhaps not to the same level of maturity of iOS. My GN4 had a fingerprint sensor, but it was unreliable and almost no apps supported it. Maybe that's different today, but not sure.

I also find myself using Apple Pay more and more. It's faster than inserting a credit card into a chip reader and waiting for the screen to say "REMOVE CARD".

I do think the "OK Google" AI is more advanced than Siri, but not enough for me to care.

I am indeed. The "plug in your phone then drag and drop files" simplicity is not there. I still need iTunes for music and syncing other media via a third party app. The Files app is a good step forward though.

Did you ever set replay gain in your music app when you where on Android? It normalizes volume and is in most players settings now. I store all my music locally as well and use an app called Neutron(payed). All volumes are the same with replay gain enabled.

I sure did. I use Poweramp and it's got replay gain but it doesn't work as well as Sound Check.

Right now, FaceID is more secure than TouchID. If they lowered FaceID accuracy down to somewhere in b/w the two biometric security method, i am OK with that. Just MAKE MORE ASAP!! I am afraid that even with waking up early, i may not be able to get one.
