Expected because X is flagship and Apple wants to keep it that way. If you make X (gen 1) cheap later this year, then that destroys its status. It will simply be replaced by X 2018 (or whatever it is called).

Looks like rumors are that apple will make new X-like iPhones for this year, but will discontinue the current X.

Well, if it is poor sales, then Apple would not make any X-like iPhone at all, right? But that is not what the rumors are saying.

2018 X is rumored to be exactly like 2017 X in screen size (5.8") and has the "notch", except for probably upgraded internals and camera. 2018 X will also come in "Plus" size. And then you have a cheaper 6.1 LCD iPhone.

In past years, the flagship from last year drops in price when the new one comes out. My guess is that "X" is the name from now on. There is no iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, etc. X is the name. It is the flagship name. Think of the Macbook lineup. There is Macbook 2017, 2018, 2019, etc.

So, if you drop price on X 2017 when 2018 model comes out, you dilute the name (ruin status of flagship) and confuses the shit out of people because 2017 and 2018 X look the same. And if 2017 X are discounted, then that will eat into the 2018 lower end model (see tablet below). (Look at the confusion currently with iPhone 8/8+ and then 7/7+.) Personally, i think Apple screwed up the whole iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 transition.

There is some history behind this move. Apple just does this sometimes. When it was time to build a sequel for the iPhone 5, the company built the 5s and replaced the existing iPhone 5 with the plastic-fantastic iPhone 5c.

Notch is a MUST because of TrueDepth camera that is required for FaceID and Augmented Reality with the front camera system. The "ears" on either side is an added bonus to display extra info. In other phones, they don't use this extra area...a wasted space. Unlike Android with its billion variations, Apple can force developers to use this specific space because X is the flagship and is what people buy in the millions!

Look at the notch on the Essential phone on Android...Android cannot specifically adapt to that ONE phone when there are a million other Android phones that are different from Essential phone (and are selling better too). The only way Android software will use the notch is if EVERY Android flagships have the notch.

I am 99.999% sure that it will. The question is...will Apple still throttle the actual speed because they will likely still use Intel and Qualcomm modems. Intel modems are (up to now) about 1 generation behind Qualcomm.

(Selfishly, i am glad that Verizon skipped on the bidding war for 600 MHz because this means that my X [2017] will work just as good as newer Verizon phones in terms of coverage.)

Verizon doesn't need any help on the coverage end. Me on T-mobile is a different story. Do appreciate that Canada and Mexico is included being how much I travel to both, but it definitely won't hurt to have a bit more coverage.

For my 6 i used speck candyshell grip and 7+ I used Speck Presidio Grip. Wanted to try something else. Tried otterbox symmetry for a day, returned and went with an under armour case. Liked the UA for the most part, went back to BB to feel the Speck Grip like I had on 7+. Just couldn’t pass up the feel, so back to the same case I have had for 4-5 year or so. Speck Presidio Grip is very thin, yet feels so sturdy and secure. Definitely grippy, almost too grippy right now, but I know after a little time it’s perfect! The face side ledge is deeper than most thin cases so screen protection is great. Highly recommend the Speck Grip line!

Good News. I've owned most models of iPhone since the 3G and this is the best one by far. Really very little to dislike about it besides the price.

I have mixed feelings on the Face ID on my X. It makes for an awkward Apple Pay interaction. I don’t like pulling out my phone and looking away from the merchant. With Touch ID, it was much simpler. It might sound!silly, but as someone who deals with clients on a daily basis, it just feels weird to me every time I use it. I can tell people very briefly think I am just looking at myphone, not Apple Pay.

Good phone overall but I really don’t feel like it is a huge upgrade from my 6, though the camera is definitely a bit better and I do like the portrait setting.

IOS 12 is even better with Portraits, esp with front camera. And with iOS 12, you can now set two faces to recognize...OR as with me, i set one up regular. The 2nd face is with me sitting and my phone flat on desk. That way, i can now unlock my phone with it flat on table.

Do updates get staggered? I just had one appear the other day but it’s only for 11.4.1. I generally wait a bit as the IT folks at the company I work for give the “OK” to update devices tied into the company platform so I haven’t installed the 11.4.1 update yet.
