Apple Watch Series 4

I find myself in a similar situation. I had already ruled out the XS and XS Max due to the fact that I just don't need that much phone, but I am looking to get into something better. I currently have a 6S and enjoy using my wife's X for taking pictures and watching random videos. I was ready to wait a bit and take a look at the XR when it comes out. Then I found that the X is now $899. I feel like an $899 X is superior to a $749 XR. Meaning, I'm getting enough for my money at a $150 difference. Thoughts?

BTW, I've had my AW3 Nike for a little over a month and love it!

Xr = better main camera than X. Faster processor (way overkill = future proof?). $150 in your pocket...which you can then save and buy Apple Watch Series 4.

X = premium materials (316L stainless steel band). Simply looks better IMHO. Much better display...real HDR/DV display...which makes viewing movies AWESOME! Main camera may not be as good, but it is more flexible (optical zoom) and better Portraits (Xr is pure software). Smaller in size. A11 chip is already class-leading, so, it is not a big deficit to the A12 chip. Maybe better resale value? Lastly, X is the official 10-year anniversary model and “limited edition” in that sense because it is no longer available from Apple.

IF i were you, then i would get X. But if you’re a gamer (e.g. Fortnite), then Xr may be better way to go. Camera is debatable...but if don’t use telephoto zoom or Portrait and if you love camera, then Xr is better.

I appreciate the response. I'm glad that you brought up the new processor, as that's where I thought that the XR would edge out the X. I honestly wouldn't come close to taking advantage of the A11 chip, let alone the A12. Oh yeah, the X is a good looking phone. Front the back, XR looks more like my 6S than the X does. I leaning toward the X.


Reasons that I'm upgrading:
More storage
Better camera
Longer battery life

You think an insurance company wouldn't pay anything to get their hands on it? "Ahh, well Joe Six Pack here has an erratic ticker... Geez, i have been looking at several Youtube videos of iPhone Xs vs. X camera...i don't know...if i was in YOUR situation, then i would pony up extra $$ and get the Xs instead of the X (or Xr).

i had to pick up a apple watch series 4 in 44mm. The screen clarity, bezeled screen, and color vibrance blew me away, and the lightness of the aluminum versions.


Yea, I bought the cheapest aluminum version, b/c I didn't want to pay more to what is essentially semi disposable.

XS Camera better than X in just about everything. We'll have to wait and see.

OK, i went for the iPhone Xs instead of Apple Watch 4. Verizon is giving me $700 (in total trade in value) for my X. I got Xs Gold 512GB. The camera is just amazing...it is significantly better than my X...i have tested in real world. Not even close in basically every scenario.

S4 chip in Apple Watch series 4 is actually quite powerful...maybe even on par with iPhone 6s processor from 2015.

From reading on internet, the CPU cores of S4 are called Tempest, which are the small cores of the A12 chip (in iPhone XS).

I have a series 4 and love it. It's great for fitness & hard to go back to not having a smart watch.

been using Apple Watch since the day it came out. I even waited online for the minute is went on pre order. im on series 4 now and have to say Apple has absolutely nailed the smart watch segment

My son just got a series 4 last week. I have been wanted one but couldn't justify to spend $450 for it. I already have too many watches at home from dress (expensive) to casual (daily) and fitness.
I checked out his and it's very cool. My son likes it a lot.

I am still soldiering on with my 1st generation (series zero) Apple Watch. It is no longer getting updates. It lags and battery life not the best but i still use it everyday. Very useful in my workflow.

I even tried to wear my Rolex several times...i just cannot stick to it more than 2 days before missing the Apple Watch features. Weird.

i have the non cellular version but cellular would be nice. maybe the next time around for the next gen watch. not a deal breaker for me. i just leave my xs max in the bag or close proximity during work or gym. its kinda lame carrying a big phone haha
