Hey t4r lovers. I'd like a rundown on opinions for my rig set up. I know I've asked a couple questions like this before but after taking some great advice and using my truck first to determine how I use it I believe I have a better idea of my expectations. Just to make notice I'm running a 2004 sr5 4spd 4x4 auto v6, so I do have the 390 gears. There for I've got myself into a pickle when originally I thought I was doing myself a favor. I bent my rear axle housing and replaced it with an 07 fj axle with 390 gears but it has a factory e-locker. The wire harnes from low range offroad is on order. Having the thin ring in the diff is a concern. I've heard horror stories of the weakness of these fj rear diffs.
So this is what I'm thinking. From people's reports the 275/70r17 is much easier on the rig than 285/70r17. I noticed a 1mpg difference going from stock tire size to one size bigger 265-70r17s. The 275s are actually less than one more size up. They are 32.3 and only a 1/4" more wide. The 285s are 32.6 and 3/4" inches more wide. I know what to expect out of mpg differences but my question is what about the strain on the rear diff? Say I'm in a scenario where my I'm flexed out, locked center and rear and I need the momentum.
I'm rolling a 2.5 daystar spacer lift now but I plan to bump her up to 3". I want to run ome 885s with some billies and invest more in my 4link. 2" toytec super flex and the toytec adjustable rear links. The 285/70s are not even a 33 but are the too heavy for the weak ring and pinion?
Another ? Is in regurads to the vsc mod. I may want to in some cases have my runner in 2wd with the rear locker enguaged. I read a lot but it seems I can only find info on this mod for 3rd gens and v8s where the wiring seems to be a little different. Is there any info on my particular model? Mine has two plugs going in to the master cylinder. One has 3 wires and the other has 2. How much stress would the rear diff be under if I was doing donuts with the vsc off and rear locker enguaged in 2wd with 285s vs 275s. Thanks everyone and happy 2016.
