Arapahoe High School shooting

Another unstable student with access to a firearm... here we go again. Hopefully those injured recover quickly.

Two wounded, gunman dead in shooting at Denver-area high school

With that said, it seems odd that the media immediately tries to link this to the Aurora Theater, Columbine, and even Sandy Hook. Sigh...

Edit: Can a mod correct my typo in the title? thx

Great. I think we will see another push for gun laws after the new year

Great. I think we will see another push for gun laws after the new year

The media has been building it up in the past few weeks, esp with the SH anniversary. I've seen more and more articles on it lately, and of course this will be front page for a while.

just in time for another push against those scary black assault rifles.

we don't have a gun problem, we have a stupidity problem.

Hickendouchebag and the libs in the State Senate are already getting ready to jam more BS legislation down Coloradans throats to take away our freedoms.

But how can this happen with all of our new gun control legislation and in a "gun free zone"? I just don't understand!?!

Liberals are idiots

Tryin to be like California and use scare tactic... I think I read something about swat being there within a few minutes... Hmm I wonder how they got geared up and on scene so fast.

And funny your the first post I read in off topic. I was just coming to share the new pistol I ordered.A Sig spartan. With Molan labe in gold inlay on the slide and on the silly lookin grips.

My condolences to everyone involved.

Shotgun was used... Could have happened anywhere in any country. US is probably the only large country that allows citizens to have large mag assault rifles but that isn't the issue in his shooting. We have assault rifles in Canada but all mags must be pinned to 5 rounds. Pistols and Carbine (ie 9mm JR Carbine) rifles don't have mag limits.

Our class of guns is either restricted (hand guns, rifles that have barrel lengths less than 18" or can easily be folded down/modded to full auto) and non-restricted (basically any shotgun or rifle with a barrel of 18" or more).

To get a non-restricted license you need what's called a Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL). You obtain it by completing a firearms safety course (required to hunt/carry weapon) then you apply to the RCMP to get your PAL so you can buy and own guns and ammunition. They review the app and approve within 30 days. You can then buy non-res guns as you wish. They are not registered win any authority. Nobody asks any questions except to see your PAL card to prove your legitimacy... just like you would show ID to prove your age.

Restricted is a bit different. In addition to the firearms safety course, you do the restricted safety course. You then again apply to the RCMP for your Restricted PAL. With restricted (hand guns/assault rifles) guns you can only transport them to and from the range and all purchases are registered with the federal government. When you buy your first restricted weapon you also need an Authorization to Transport and Carry so that you can transport the weapon from the store. You also have to belong to a shooting club since that is the only place you can use them.

I have no problem with any of these requirements and I think they are very reasonable. I just wish mags for rifles didn't have to be pinned to 5 rounds. Just thought I would share a bit about Canadian gun laws for those interested in a different perspective.

Apparently this coward walked in wearing a bandolier of shotgun shells, a pump action shotgun (purchase legally - he was 18), carrying a machete, and a bag full of molotov cocktails.

How the f--ck did he get in with this stuff?

Random question: In all of the mass shootings there have been nation wide, I'd have always been curious to know if any of those people gunned down had a fully loaded, cocked and locked gun on them... or was everyone unarmed?

Just wondering, ever since an armed citizen confronted the Oregon mall shooter.

Sandy Hook was a 'gun free zone', Trolley Square was posted as a 'gun free zone'. I've heard that the Aurora movie theaters were a 'gun free zone'.

All a 'gun free zone' accomplishes, is making those places a prime target for cowardly lunatics, bent on mindless killing. Because they are virtually guaranteed that no law-abiding citizens will be armed to defend against their cowardly acts.

At least in the Trolley Square incident, an off-duty Officer ignored the signs posted at entrances to the Mall forbidding the carrying of firearms on premises. When the cowardly lunatic started shooting, he was able to engage the punk and likely saved countless lives.

As far as this school shooting goes, I think this comment that I saw posted elsewhere, sums it up nicely:

So Colorado passes ridiculously restrictive gun laws... they do not prevent another school shooting... cops take 14 minutes to show up... yet miraculously the shooting is over in 80 seconds because shooter takes his own life when he realizes he is cornered by an armed resource officer who is on the staff... and the shooter is a proud socialist... and the mainstream media doesn't have a whole lot to say about it because a good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with a gun... it flies in the face of their agenda.

Maybe, but the last thing you want is a bunch of idiots with unrestricted access to guns.

what does that have to do with my comment?

also, I read an article this morning, they are now saying response time was 80 SECONDS. there was a LEO on site, once he confronted the kid, and identified himself, that's when he killed himself.

Since Newtown, gun measures that have been passed expanding gun rights outnumber measures passed to restrict by a 2:1 ratio.

But yeah, hyperbole and stuff.

Careful with statistics. Many of the "expansive" laws passed were things like reciprocity amongst states with regards to licensing and making records confidential by law - that isn't really expanding anyone's rights.
