ARB Bumper

I have read all the write up and tutorials I can find for weeks. I will be installing a Tacoma ARB bumper on my 4runner this week with a winch. I understand the basics of the install.

Just looking for any other tips from members. I know about cutting off frame end caps and have seen other steps.

Any pitfalls or suggestions? Is the end cap plate mod necessary? Would welding the brackets to the frame be sufficient instead? Thank you.

If you're winching, end cap mod is definitely a safe bet. Just to be clear you're only cutting the flanges from the ends so the brackets can slide over the frame. Make sure you get it flush with the frame so the brackets slide on how they're supposed to. I would take a break afterwards to spray rustoleum on the bare metal before and let dry before mounting the brackets.

Install is straightforward, not much wiggle room. Definitely helps to have another pair of hands (or two) for alignment before tightening down. They purposefully made enough play to allow for slight adjustment.

Welding the frame is fine. I did it on my last build when the bolt hole was screwed. I would advise you bolt it up as recommended, and if you have any insecurities about how it feels afterwards lay some beads.

Mine went without any issues in just under 4 hours, but I didn't do the winch and just took my time. I was by myself. No trouble at all and was pleased with the results. I didn't remove the end plates but trimmed them to fit instead.
Just used a floor jack to hold the bumper up for fitting. Nice clean setup.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will post pics and my experience installing the bumper in my build thread. So maybe it will add to the search results other members may do in the future.
