Here's an encouraging reply from a really good vendor - Shrockworks in Houston. He does a lot of work for the Xterra community. Check his references on www.xterraownersclub.com Shrock has a good reputation.

Make it 30 people. I'll have them ready 8-10 weeks from the day the 30th
person puts their order in. If they don't like the protototype, they can
cancel. No cards charged until production of the first batch begins. Once
production begins, they will ship in about 4 weeks.

I have to check out their website, but I know shrockworks was the company that Nitrous Enterprises,NE, (no longer in bus.) went to to have their rock sliders designed. As most of you probly know, NE had some negative views from potential buyers, (i have their 4/3" lift, no problems after serious pounding-and checked frequently) However, these sliders that Shrockworks made for them are fully XREAS compatable and look BOMB proof. super, SUPER clean. I bet Shrockworks would get some serious deals goin since they could fill a range of needs we are looking to satisfy. You can see the sliders at the link below. (hanna quality still looks like a very GOOD option, but i know the people that bought these sliders report they went on like warm butter; nice and easy with no cutting, bending or pounding.)

Bumpers on Shrockwork Nissans look good. I'm game, however, I am sending a gnarly 2 page letter to ARB Int. Corporate. We'll see how that goes:bash: .

I thought that NE used a different vendor than Shrock and then NE booger welded their crappy NE brackets on to them. I didn't think that Shrock had any dealings with NE (I guess I was wrong).

Ok...I don't endorse NE in any way. In fact, I am relieved that I never bought their products...which I almost did.

I owned an X as well and Shrock has a good name in the X community.

Ok, to get the thread back on track - I thought that Shrock would be a viable alternative for the bumper question. I guess we'll see what the T4R.org community thinks.

It was fully Shrockworks; NE just created the demand, provided the spec.s and was the distributor. None-the-less, Shrockworks products look really sweet, and sound really good after reading the reviews. If ARB doesn't get on with any substantial info for us, i'm prepared to go the Shrockworks route.

The way ARB are farting around I would be very tempted to place an order for the Shrockworks.

That sounds like a good idea. I did email the letter below to ARB head office in Melbourne, AU yesterday. The fact that I haven't got a response could mean they are considering it and know we're serious, or...they just don't give a rip. I know they couldn't have missed it, I had to send it in 6 seperate emails. I encluded 51 names from request list at the end of letter. I'll see if they reply today, but may try to fax and mail a copy also.
Letter:
Dear ARB,
My name is Raymond R. Dabela, a member of T4R.org, Toyota120.com, and owner of a 4th generation 4Runner. I ask you to please see that this letter reaches your Corporate Office in hope that they will understand my request and concern.
Continued communications with Tim Lund, Tech Supervisor, Engineering Assistant-Air Locker, Inc. in Renton, WA, USA has led to our understanding that ARB has put a hold on the development of your Deluxe Bullbar for the 4th generation 4Runner; a bulbar that was perfectly displayed at last years SEMA show. Reasons for the set-back in development of this product are unknown to all in the U.S., including Tim, other than the possible marketing theory that there is a lack of demand. The fact that a 4th generation body style is unavailable in Australia does not seem to play a role, based on the fine looking prototype we saw at SEMA. Regarding the lack of demand as a possible result from ARB

One of the problems ARB faces is the fact that the 4runner is not sold in Australia. Other vehicles such as Jeeps and Nissans are sold overseas in the same platform thus the easability of developing a product. Purchasing the vehicle and shipping over the Australia is not the most economical solution thus the dilemma. Another issue to note is the demand. There is simply not enough demand to go through the exhausting process of getting a vehicle to AU and r&d'ing the bumper. If the 4runner was already in Australia then the story would be different as the cost to produce the product is much cheaper.

This is all economics and unfortunately I don't think they would even break even if they sold several hundred bumpers for the 4runner. So if you were in their shoes, would you make this bumper for a big loss? I know I wouldn't. As much as I would like to see this become a reality it's really a hard one to grasp.

As for the SEMA 4runner bumper, that one was a custom bumper that was built to see if the interest in the 4runner exists. I'm not sure what kind of responses ARB is getting but we must continue to push them hard so they know we're business. Hopefully with enough requests this will become a reality.

Until then, we need to continually email Tim Lund ([email protected]) with the request so he can log the email and forward those to the corporate office in Australia.

One last thing to note, Australians are damn LAZY!!! That's a quick fyi

i just be wait till arb come out. I looked at the shrockworks bumper. and i not a fan of it. I had an ARB on my Tacoma, and i loved the look. Especally in Socal, people move out of your way.

I know what you mean. ARB's look sweet, have a great reputation, and get the job done in a number of ways. The shrockworks don't look to bad though, just not quite as good. However approach angle looks like it might be better. The other option of something like GoodTimes is clean and no doubt has gnarly approach angle (he could probly climb a wall!).
For me though, I'm lookin for something expedition style like the ARB. Good access to the winch&drum, bull-bar protection for the odd moose encounter, the ability to butterfly the cable when frequently winching, and good spot to mount CB arial and use hi-lift when needed.
To get an ARB though, we have to deal with the Ausie time frame. Which mostly consists of :cheers: and :beer:.

Here is a reply I received the other day to my recent inqury re. an ARB bumper for the 4th generation Runner:

No, not true. AK had a big hand in those sliders and the mounting ideas. Shrockworks might be a good company, I don't know, but please don't pimp the NE-associated sliders as even if they were not designed by Anthony you would still have to buy them from him and that is just as bad.

That said, I'd be interested in getting the bumper too, and added my name to the list over at toyota120.com

I really don't believe we are any closer. Lance's scepticism from the start was pretty accurate I believe.

Here's the logest email I've got from Tim Lund in the last few days. I think the ARB bullbar for the 4th Gen is a pipe dream in the forseeable future.

Make what you want of this, but I think Tim is being very honest (big credit to him)........

Thanks for your email.

Unfortunately at this time we do not yet have a bumper for the 2003+ 4Runners. We have built a prototype and have discussed bringing a bumper into production, but unfortunately that is as far as it has gone.

I will log your request into our request database which is used to help decide which products to produce in the future. The more requests we get for any one certain product, the better chance it has to be accepted.

Sorry for the somewhat "canned" response, but with the amount of requests for different new products we receive each day, we need to be able to reply to them and log them into our database in a timely fashion. All requests are taken seriously and I do read each one and log each one by hand.
