actually my question was a result of already viewing that link. if arb has taken measurements, does anyone have an idea of how long till we can see finished product.

i'm contemplating building a custom front receiver hitch that will hold my warn xd9000i portable wench. if that arb bumper is coming out any time soon, i'll hold off on doing the receiver hitch.

i have been in contact with tim lund from arb and he informs me that the bumper will be available late summer or early fall of this year.

it will accept a warn wench up to a 9.5 and no "i" series.

Cool, I like wenches on the front of the truck:p

Personally, I wouldn't recommend you hold your breath on the dates from ARB. Its obviously not a priority. Consider that the FJC already has their's and 4th gen owners have been asking for the bar for several years now.

Would be great to see it come out by the end of summer but.....

It's always interesting to see how a company places it's priorities. I guess that you can't blame them because they are in it for the profit.

And sorry, dsams, i did not read your post in detail.

Thai, that"s O.K.

from what i understand, the reason that the FJ already has a bumper is that toyota gave the specs to ARB a long time before its release. toyota did this with several after-market companies hoping to increase the appeal of the FJ to the public.

The soul reason the FJ got so much attention was due to Toyota pursuing each vendor to develop the toys for the FJ when it got released. Instead of directly advertising to the public on the FJ, they invested the $ into working with vendors to get the aftermarket products out so when the FJ was released the toys will be available for purchase thru Toyota.

If Toyota did the same to the 4runner we would have seen the same result. Good news is that we get to benefit from many of the toys :)

Lance,

I'm interested in how this works. In what ways did Toyota invest $$ into working with vendors? What sort of investment $ are we talking?

Thanks

Toyota approached ARB specifically to build the bumper for them even before the FJ was finalized (I'm thinking sometime 18 months ago?). They sent in all of the necessary cad drawings and I believe the vehicle as well (not sure about this part but I'm suspecting that is the case). Since Toyota is the one funding the project I highly doubt any vendor would say "NO".

The reason why the 4runner is taking forever is the fact that Toyota never supplied the cad drawings of the 4runner to ARB so thus building the "hard way". Now that they have dimensions of a temp design they're now able to make a full production version off of this and that is where the 4runner sits. The other option was for ARB to purchase a 4runner outright and ship it to down under to get one developed but the r&d costs would be outrageous that being able to recoup on the costs would be impossible.

The economics on purchasing and shipping a vehicle just doesn't add up. Lets not forget the build their bumpers to comply w/ the air bags etc so the costs on the r&d is not cheap unlike making an one off or a small production by smaller vendors.

Hope that makes sense.

Interesting, but I don't really see where sending them CAD drawings is a serious investment $ wise (other than the return$.. LOL).

Do you know why didn't Toyota send CAD drawings for the 4Runner and why didn't ARB persue Toyota for the CAD drawings?

Thx.
Mark

ARB pursued Toyota to send out the drawings for the specification of the 4runner but Toyota never replied w/ the appropriate information thus delaying the r&d.

The serious investment is not just sending the drawings but funding the entire project from end to end. The cost to r&D is not nickles and dimes so you can imagine the man hours it took to develop and test and retest (remember ARB tests their bumper to comply w/ the airbags for the US side so that there is an $$ test process). Since the project is on Toyota's dime who's gonna say No?

I talked to Jim and Tim from ARB recently. September is their timeline. So, I'd say ~2month...if everything will go as planned.
