I installed the ARB rear diff breather kit about a month and a half ago. Periodic inspection showed it was fine. I was under the car today and noticed that the tubing had come too close to the exhaust and melted. It still passes air fine so it's ok temporarily but ideally I would like to replace it with a more robust tubing option. It is 8mm OD tubing. Would it be advisable to run that size transmission or fuel line? Air hose? Basically I am looking for something more durable than what ARB supplies with the kit and something that will be more resilient to temperature. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated

I came across an alternative to diff breathers after watching Ronny Dahl's latest Modified episode on YouTube: https://youtu.be/18Sm_5YOKjE
Can anyone shed light on who makes those? It seems like a solid way to go about taming any variations in diff pressures.

@OP, you can't really run anything next to the exhaust. You can get heat shield tubing.

I actually ended up relocating the ARB breather to the rear fender wall. I had enough tubing to do so, it was high enough not to worry about water infiltration and it didn't come close to any heat issues. I can't post pictures but can email if anyone is interested in seeing how and where. Basically removed the fender liner, used 2 self tapping screws into the rear fender liner wall to mount the ARB breather and JB weld for assurance, ran the hose and finished. Much less traffic through heat sources and protected by fender liner so not worried at all.
I used the ARB kit; just mounted in the rear fender area. I had a Nissan Titan that have a rear diff failure and they were notorious for problems with the breather. After seeing to Toyota breather, it wasn't reassuring with how much gunk accrues so I decided to do it for peace of mind. The run to the engine bay was long and had to snake close to exhaust. Mounting in rear fender wall allows for shorter run with no contact to heat issues and still relatively easy to access if you choose to attach the other 4Runner breathers as well.

It's only an issue if you cross deep water. Then it's a big problem. There must be 100s of threads on this.

I too had the same problem of having the ARB hose being melted by the extreme heat.
I was hoping to buy a replacement hose from ARB but they seem to be hard to come by.
So instead, I purchased a fuel line hose from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PLMLHXQ). I confirm that the outside diameter of the ARB hose fits the inside diameter of the fuel hose. After inserting the hose together, they got very snug and used a hose clamp to secure them. This allowed me to keep the ARB tap to the diff and the filter on each end while using the ARB hose as pigtails connecting to the fuel hose.
