Are my headlights supposed to always be on?

1st post to the forum!
Just bought an 08 sr5 v8 with only 103k!
My headlights are always on, even when the switch is off
Didn't know if this is a stock drl
Or if a previous owner modded it
Trying to figure it out so I'm not burning through bulbs

I think there's a programmable setting for that. You'll need to poke through the owners manual, or talk to a Toyota shop about it.

I have a 2003 SR5 V8. My headlights are not always on, unless I leave them turned to the "ON" position. Are you saying when you turn the Runner off, and turn the headlight switch off, that they stay on?

Yup, doesn't matter where I turn the switch, lights are headlights are ALWAYS on.

I have no idea if there's a factory "programmable" setting that might allow them to turn off automatically, even if you turn the vehicle off and leave the headlights on. But I wouldn't think there's a setting that keeps the lights on at all times. Are you having to disconnect the battery?

Don't have to disconnect anything. Headlights turn off like they should when the car is off. But if the car is on, the headlights are on

On my '09, what stays on all the time is the parking amber colored lights. It's possible previous owner messed around with wiring harness and spliced into those parking lights wires to have headlights always on too; just my theory, I could be wrong.

I gotcha. So they don't stay on all the time. I have no idea if your model has the DRL's or not. My year (2003) does not. So headlights are only on if you turn the switch on. If I shut the car off when the headlights on, they turn off automatically after a few and of course would turn on when start the Runner back up.
