Are my rear headrests backwards??

I was just cleaning out my 3rd gen and when i was putting the rear headrests back in i realized… The front headrests have the adjustment/release button on the driver’s side of the headrest, and the rear seats have that button on the passenger’s side of the headrest… But all 4 of the headrests have the notches on the driver’s side……


Surely they’re not meant to be put on there backwards, are they? When i put them on backwards they’re uncomfortably far back when sitting in the rear seat and probably wouldn’t do much for whiplash… I’ll try to attach pics of all four so you can see what i mean. You can tell which ones they are from the background hopefully. Are they all like this or do i have a botched headrest replacement or something?

In my current state this is a lot to wrap my head around but aren't the posts with the indents supposed to go in the hole with the push-in release button?
I am running black headrests out of a Lexus sedan but I'm parked down the street right now and it's raining

The second picture down shows the right way. The headrests adjust forward, I assume to accommodate folks with really bad posture(?)
Also, like Endlessblockades said, the little notches go where they need to to match the button on the holes in the top of the seat.

Looks like you have a set of front headrests in the rear to me. The rear headrests are VERY thin compared to the front headrests.

You'll know they are correct if they latch into various heights... If you have a '99-'02, the rear headrests also slot into holes in the rear seat bottoms when they are flipped forward to block the cargo space and hold them.

Dunno if this helps, but pictured is a unit from a '98 Ltd rear seat.
You can see what side the position notches are on, and the lack of
any ability to tilt the headrest forward or backward.

Was going to say this, but it's already been said.

I grabbed a matching pair of front headrests at a junkyard for my 99 once, no real reason other than to have 'deluxe' rear headrests. I used a grinder and put a couple of shallow notches on the other leg so the rear seat would hold it.
