Are they still doing recall work for 96-98's?

I always planned on waiting until I got my OME lift to negate the recall on my 4runner. I'm not going to be doing the new lift until it gets warmer though. I already have the Daystar 2.5" kit installed with aftermarket shocks in the rear. I would like to have the free springs installed until I get around to buying and installing my new lift.

So...would the dealer replace my rear springs with new ones and put the new cone bumpstops on even though my car has the Daystar spacers in the rear already?

Are they even still doing this? I have all the paperwork and dealer instructions about doing the recall so I won't have a hard time legitimizing my claim.

I think they would not replace them only because you do not have the stock suspension on it. I know there are a few members on here that work at a dealer, maybe I am wrong though.

Well, take it to one dealer and if they won't do it, take it to another. If none will do it in your area, take off the spacers.

you're running 265s so take the spacers off, put your wheels back on and take it to the dealership (schedule in advance of course). no dealership will alter or enhance anything aftermarket. the shocks are no problem, just do what i said and you'll be good to go

Thanks, ill stop by and see what the dealership says about ordering the parts and scheduling.

Will they say anything about the front still being lifted and the rear back to stock?

the recall has nothing to do with the front so they won't even mess with it. if you are very precise about your maintenance you may be doing an alignment after the install, but even the dealership won't care what your suspension is composed of, as long as its readable by the computer system.

the rear springs tended to "Squat" or "Sag" due to towing a trailor or heavy things in the trunk, so toyota issued a recall of the "old" spring to be replaced with the "new" springs they came up with.

so if you r planning replacing your springs DavidAlexander and removing the rear lift, why not hook me up with the lift and you can get your coils a little faster!

The 2wd 96-98 where deemed unsafe in some circumstances. They where going to solve this by adding an extra cone bumpstop on top of the rear springs to limit the movement that was unsafe. They decided to do all 96-98 4runners and the 4wd version will get new rear springs and cone bumpstops, the 2wd only bumpstops. They announced this in 02-03. Search a little on yotatech and you should find some more info.

The recall actually didn't have anything to do with the sag, it just happens that the recall work will correct the problem of rear sag for 4wd owners because they replace the springs with the recall.

I will add that the only problems they ever had with the vehicle being unsafe where 2wd 4runners. They just decided to include all 4runners in those years so owners would not be confused if their car was included.
