So I am finally ready to get this thread started. My name is Asa and grew up in NYC. I got my 96 SR5 3years ago as a 18th birthday gift from my older brother since he no longer used it (his loss) and I needed a car to drive to college. I never really worked on cars growing up but had some skills from working on bikes and such. I came across this site and immediately had big plans for the rig. Given a second chance I would have done a few things differently but I'm happy the way things have turned out. I lost my phone that had a majority of the pics but I'll piece together what I can. How she looked when I first got her, I knew I wanted more power and more noise so I bought a K&N CAI and a cherry bomb glass pack and well as Mickey Thompson stzs


The 4wd always had problems with engaging but I never knew why so I took it to a garage to find out what it was and was told the vsv solenoid was bad, they wanted 650 for the repair which I couldn't afford. I found a 95 in a junkyard and pulled the solenoid for a whopping 6.75 and fixed it myself (first major repair) and now 4wd engages immediately

Got a set of tundra wheels, gonna repaint them and order Cooper 255/80/17s this week


Had a misfire on cylinder 2 that dragged out for way too long and after replacing plugs and wires I found out it was just a bad coil


I forgot to take an after picture but just finished installing a 1.5 inch body lift from [MENTION=14772]shootmymime[/MENTION]


I'm moving out to Boulder by the end of the summer and have an ever growing list of mods and I hope to go wheeling with a few members out there and also members near NY:lookout:

So I finally got around to ordering new tires and painting my wheels. I followed the directions from BrianSD_42 and color scheme from [MENTION=8883]LINY4Runner[/MENTION]. I got 255/80/17 Cooper st maxx which unfortunately rub a bit on the uca when the suspension is unloaded, so I ordered wheel spacers, only a teaser pics so far

Look what came in the mail today!!! I literally ran over to get my new wheels on. Traffic was nuts so I didn't get a chance to drive it yet. I'm just about 6' and have to jump to get in :bigok:

Went for a run with a couple buddies today, just putting a few pics up here. The runner walked right up everything. 2 Tacos, a 4th Gen 4runner, a WJ, and me :rofl:



Who says a RC lift doesn't flex?

I like the paint along the side to protect the doors. I keep thinking of doing it but time and inexperience with body painting pushes the thought away.

I sucked at painting when I did the stripe but its really easy! Pick how high you want to paint and with one long strip of painters tape make a line as straight as possible. I then used news paper to protect from over spray and started spraying. If you don't feel comfortable with rattle cans you probably could brush it on but youd see the brush strokes

Cb installed, I needed it for my first wheeling trip in CO. went out to Wheeler lake with another 3rd gen and a lx 450. We hung out at the lake for a little and a 1st gen and old jeep showed up and then a group of about 6 jeeps appeared. I do need to upgrade my antenna soon since I have trouble hearing everyone else

First off, huge thanks to [MENTION=89400]MrHentoni[/MENTION], (not sure the other usernames onhere) I'll get ya that beer soon :cheers: My front shock was blown out and decided to go with some 5100s and eibach coils. We also replaced my lbjs while we had it apart. Sits about an inch higher than my spacer lift

Some things could've gone smoother, but it sits great and I'm glad to hear it rides better (I told you so =P) now go get an alignment before you ruin those tires! I'd recommend a lifetime one if you can find a shop that offers it. We all know you'll probably change something else at some point

gonna get the alignment on monday morning from a local shop. Idk if I wanna take it to firestone

After getting the struts in I went for an alignment and found out I needed to replace inner/outer tie rods.

New rear shocks for when I get a bumper built

96-98 isr mod, just used pcv caps to plug the holes and drilled holes to fit hose adapters into

Things have been a bit slow, but a few hints of future projects

New all pro front bumper and a loaned cbi that is going to be used as a custom bumper template.
I'll be upgrading my rear coils once the bumper is on and then we'll see what happens

[MENTION=92884]snivilous[/MENTION] helped to install my all pro bumper, custom hoops and rear bumper to come in a few weeks.
And finally started on the rear, one 861s vs rough county. I have tjm shocks to go in but I needed to order new bushings.

Valve cover gaskets and switched to Mobil 1

Bought a sonoran Trac bar off of mrhentoni

Finally got my rear bumper! Based off a cbi rear plate, I'm gonna add a swing out when my buddy gets the time

Tbu 231s [emoji7] my parents were in town and strangely eager to help

Axle seal started to leak again

I'm guessing caused by this

The shop won't back their work so I'll be swapping a new housing over next week

i notice your hilux snorkel fits more snug and has less gaps than other installs i've seen. Did you do anything special to make it fit closer?

I think just lots of measuring, it was our second time installing one so we were pretty careful. I'll take some close ups tomorrow so you can see how it lines up with the hood/door/antenna

awesome thanks! could you show the front gap too? i was planning on filling it with black silicon, but if i can fit it tight like yours, thats really not needed.
