AT filter and flush....

I recently got a 99 Limited and want to flush the AT thoroughly and replace with synthetic fluid. It has 125k and the fluid does not have any significant discoloration. I have heard the sometimes auto trannies get wonky after a full flush with new or cleaned filter. Any thoughts on this one?

Dropping Pan And Flushing Transmission

I would drain a couple of quarts first and see what the fluid looks like. If it is red, or close to it, I'd forgo dropping the pan and just do a couple of drain and fills of ATF for the transmission. The only real problems with a full flush has been doing a flush on a transmission that has been severely neglected.

Do a search though on "pink milkshake" to familiarize yourself with this potential problem to the transmission.

You want to stay away from a pressurized flush. In other words, use want the transmission's own pump to push the fluid. Too much pressure could dislodge some gunk and that's what kills your transmission.

You want this "gunk" to slowly dissolve, this way it won't cause problems.
