attaching diamond plate to bumper

I want to do something similar to what E-LOK'D did and fill my 4xinnovation bumper gap with diamond plate or something better if you all have an idea. It looks like he riveted his in place. This is not a process I am familiar with. Would that be the best way to go? Any other ideas?

I prefer welded but riveting works just fine also. Simple process, drill a hole, insert a rivet, use rivet gun to secure rivet. Nothing to it.
