I'm driving through your cities today. I'll be leaving College Station at about 4:00am. If you see a dude driving a Stellar Blue 4Runner with a white TRD decal looking like he is lost then that is me. Honk or wave if you see me!

I'm picking up two OEM Sport hoods on this trip. They will be safely stowed in my cargo bay between furniture blankets. See the thread linked below if you are interested.

Both of these salvage yards are closed today, so I am picking up the hoods at alternate locations.

It has been a long day driving, but the weather has been nice. I am near the Texas Motor Speedway NW of Fort Worth admiring these OEM hoods. I have some close-up photos of these two hoods. Both are in really good condition... even better than I anticipated. If someone can text me at 979-574-2070 and post some photos (6 total) that I text back to you on the thread linked in the original post above I would appreciate it.

Why do some people always try to find something negative in everything? You can call it whatever you want. This is a hobby for me on Saturdays (when it isn't football season) that is completely different than my job. I enjoy driving around the back roads of Texas and these OEM hoods provide me with a good destination. It is very challenging to locate these. Have you ever collected anything as a hobby? Most of the forum member here appreciate me finding them. Sport hoods in this condition are extremely rare.

That's neat! I love to drive, back roads are the best. Would love to find an OEM Sport Hood for a '98 Natural White, but I doubt there is a paint scheme that matches :/

Most all of us appreciate you doing this. I wish I could do this, but there's not enough good salvage yards in this area of the country. Even though I don't need a sport hood because I've got one I always click on your threads to see what you found next. Keep up the search!

Thanks! I agree with you. A Sport hood makes the entire vehicle appear more aggressive.

The trip was definitely worthwhile. Both hoods turned out even better than expected.

Hey man im trying to find a sport hood in the Tampa Bay area and I was wondering if you would be able to locate some through online surfing. I really want one but im not good at trying to find some and it seems like you have the right scheme or luck doing so.

What did you pick those up for if you don't mind me asking?

Salvage yards usually try to start at around $300 for complete OEM Sport hoods. LKQ quotes their used OEM Sport hoods at $317.12. I don't know what the odd amount is for... maybe an insurance maximum or something like that. As far as price I do the best that I can with the salvage yards to make it worthwhile to pick them up. When possible I try to negotiate and pay over the phone so that I know the hood is mine to pick up. Some salvage yards only take cash, so this doesn't always work.

Sometimes you see Sport hoods advertised for around $125, and then you find out that is just for the scoop insert, not a complete hood.

There are probably about 40 salvage yards along Jefferson. Here is a photo I took at the one that has the building that looks like a replica of the Alamo.

B and B Salvage on Kennedale had 16 3rd Gen 4Runners the last time I was there. Here is a photo I took at B and B.

Since they didn't make Sport hoods in Desert Dune Metallic it probably doesn't really matter what color you get. There should be a Gray Sport hood in Jacksonville:

There are multiple lisitings for Sport hoods at the LKQs in Crystal River and Melbourne. I'm not sure what they sell their aftermarket hoods for, but LKQ sells their used OEM Sport hoods for $317.12. If you buy one from LKQ make sure you know if you are getting an OEM hood or aftermarket.
