AutoHome Columbus roof top tent

If you own these I am going to ask you some very specific questions.


I am 6'0 tall and want to know if I could comfortably sleep inside the Columbus without my feet touching the tent material on the lower end. I am debating on the maggiolina airland due to my concern, but really like the quick opening of the Columbus, I just CANNOT stand anything making me feel trapped when sleeping.

If you are my height or taller, do your feet touch the Columbus? Can you take some photos for me? (Here comes the weird part)

Can you lay in your tent at your normal sleeping position (don't forget your pillow) and take a photo of the lower area of the tent, with your feet sticking straight up? I want to make sure it's possible to do this without touching the tent material.

Also any reviews of either of these tents are welcomed.

I had a Columbus and sold it to get an Airtop. The Airtop opens almost as fast as the Columbus, although you have to be more careful of catching the material when closing it.

I'm 5'10" and sometimes my toes would touch the end of the tent. When using a standard pillow, it adds about 4-6 inches additional length. Unless you get a narrower pillow, I think you may have length issues. My bedding always touched the fabric at the end of the tent.

I have much more room in the Airtop. The Airlander may not be for you since the lifting mechanism extends into the sleeping area a few inches at each end, reducing the effective sleep area.

So glad you responded. With the air top, do your toes touch when sleeping normally? If you don't care could you post some photos of the interior and such. For some reason there really aren't many usable pictures of Autohome tents online...

I am also looking at rooftop tents. I have moved away from Maggiolina because of the length issue. My son is 6'4" tall and won't fit in any of their models. So I have started looking at the James Baroud Grand Raid XXL as it is 89 inches long inside. I have also been looking at the Mt Rainier clam shell tent from CVT. I see in your sig pic their is a clam shell tent, do you have experience with clam shell rtt's? If so, why do you want to switch to a hard shell?

The AirTop mattress is 80" long and provides plenty of room to stretch out. My feet never touch the end and bedding stays away also. That has to do with the shape of the tent, being straight walled versus the angles end of the Columbus.

I'm sorry I don't have any pictures that you are asking for. My AirTop is put away for the winter and won't be able to easily take pics. Here are some general pics of the inside.

I owned the Mt Rainier extended, and its a great tent. Bobby is also a very stand up guy. However, the tent is time consuming and frustrating to take down. Hard shell tents are smaller, but easier to deploy and much more aerodynamic. As for James Baroud, I'll never buy one. Ive heard terrible things regarding the fiberglass cracking and refusing to warranty them
