Automatic Transmission Capacity?

So here's a picture from my Hayne's Manual outlining automatic transmission fluid capacities for the 4th gen 4Runner, are these right?

I ask because it has the level jumping in 2008 to 11.5 qts for the V8, more than triple what the 2005-2007 is? I thought, and correct me if I'm wrong, that the closed loop transmission was added along with the VVTi in the 2006 V8 and the 2005 V6 and I would assume the much larger capacity would join the closed loop system because in theory it will never be replaced. As far as I know NOTHING was added in 2008 except for maybe Hill Start Control or something, but even that was on the 2007 I think. Does anyone have any light to shed on this?

I have a 2006 V8 btw and I'm just curious if I need 3.5 qts or 12!

I wondered the same thing when i refered to the owners manual on what type of fluid and how much.
I'M guessing they are refering to doing a drain plug removal and fill.
If you dropped the pan it has to hold more than 2-3 qts. The converter alone could hold that much if you pulled the trannie.

I was going to buy 3qt type IV from Toyota parts and pull the drain plug and top it back off. Don't really see what 2.1 qts will do if it has 8-9 in it...

If you have a dip stick you can just get yourself a drill pump, clear tubing and a couple brass fittings that screw onto the drill pump. Feed the hose down the dip stick tube and use your drill to pump out 3 or so quarts into a container. Put in new and drive around for a couple days and do it again. I usually do this process 3 or 4 times.
It's somewhat wasteful but its pretty quick and easy.

to be honest, all i know is that its for the A750E trans. I just drain and refill mine about once every 9months. sorry i couldn't directly answer it for ya.

I see from your signature you have a 2004 is it the v6 or v8?
I just wondered since I have a 2004 v6 with the 4 speed and how much typeIV atf you used and did you do the thing with the light in the dash to make sure it was up to temp..

That procedure is only for the 04+ V8 and 05+ V6 with the sealed 5spd A750F/E

i cannot honestly remember how much i put in the tranny. what i did was drain it till it dripped no more then rode my bike down the street to the toyota dealer and bought that much. i want to say it was 5 qts or right around that. no light thingy on my dash.

oh, V6.
it's a really simple proecess to do. i just like to take longer than others. It could be done in 30 minutes if you put your mind to it.

When I did a drain and refill of my transmission at 60K miles (2004 V-6 4WD), I measured how much drained. 4.5 quarts of tranny fluid drained. My manual said that only 2.1 quarts should have drained. I refilled 4.5 quarts. I'm not sure why there was such a difference but I'm at 87K miles now and have had no problems. It's almost time for another fluid change.

I did the fluid change today. 4qts drained out of it.
It might have been the angle the T4R was sitting that I didn't get 4.5qts
like socky3850 did.

I bought 5 qts from Toyota dealer @ 5.45 qt

Looked much dirter in the gal milk jug I drained it into verses looking at it on dip stick..

I changed it hoping it would stop hunting for first gear when I turn onto My street. It feels like it was not down shifting quick enough from a high speed roll.

2007 4runa tranny capacity

I know this is an old post but i just did a complete pull and torque converter dump, and radiator purge and the total capacity was about 8.75 US Qts to get it completely full give or take a few ounces.
