Average labor price to install new suspensions?

Called local mechanic and he said it would cost $300 to install the Moog FJ springs with blisteins 5100 1.75 and rear spacers.



Also do I need any other parts for the installation? Car is at 244k miles

I understand everyone has their reasons and I'm not one to judge but why not install it on your own? I feel like it'd be a fun learning experience and you get to drive what you built. Just curious.

+1. Definitely better and cheaper to do it yourself and learn about your rig. Useful hands on information for later down the line, especially if you plan to take it off road.

I am afraid if I mess something up I won't be auto savy enough to figure out what I did wrong

Pomona isn't that far away from my neck of the woods. What if you had someone to walk you thru it?

$300 is CHEAP if you ask me. With 244K depending on where you live, he'll have rust to fight with which can turn a 3 hour job into a 3 day job. Make sure you have an alignment done also.

Depends on where the vehicle came from, in all honesty. Not as bad out here in SoCal as some other regions of the country. Plenty of pb blaster and some persuasion (pronounced 2lb hammer) and he should be good. Fear not, the nuts and the bolts...

I agree and I'd have new grade 8 or in this case metric 10.9 nuts and bolts on hand either way. Never hurts to replace them while apart and upgrade at the same time. $300 is cheap either way especially it that includes the required alignment. My shop charges $115 an hour plus parts of course. Alignment is generally between $80-$125 depending on the shop.

The shop a few miles from me charges $79.95 when I need my alignment done. So the question to the OP is: would you rather just have it done for $300(maybe more if alignment wasn't included), or learn how and only pay $80 + lunch ( sandwich form or can form, user preference)?

I only pay about $50-$60 for my alignments man you guys pay a lot! haha

So I am fine with trying to do it on my own probably most likely on the 23rd of this month since i am free all weekend.

So what would you guys recommend I replace in the process of swapping out the suspensions?

A good idea to replace ball joints and check wheel bearings in front as they will be at new angles and have more stress on them opposed to stock configuration

Just wanted to share my reason for having work done by certified professionals (dealership for me)

• Lack of advanced technical knowledge on automotives
• Lack of tools needed for major work
• Fear of screwing up something where I'd need to bring in to a professional to undo mistakes made during installation

Believe me, I'd love to do all the work on my 4Runner. If I had a good buddy locally who owned a 4R that also happened to do all the work himself on the 4R, I'd definitely try to setup nights where he can help me do mods in exchange for beer and food.

Other than that, I'd prefer to have my local dealership service my 4R since they've treated me well over the years, including my family spanning back to ~20 years
