Pretty slick! Kinda like the tires they put on motorcycles to run on dunes.

Swedes strap logs sideways on their tractor tires to get unstuck... same idea.

That's actually a pretty ingenious idea. I'm surprised they stayed on since it didn't seem like he spent much time securing them to the wheels. Just kinda pressed them on and went.

that's what I was worried about, i could see one flying off at 3500rpm and impaling someone 300 feet out

Yeah, but like any recovery operation you want to make sure people aren't in the "line of fire" before you go for it.
