Axles didn't go all the way in

I did the Big Job over the weekend including lower ball joints, wheel bearings, and new axles (CVJ with the red silicone boots).

On the pass side the axle went all the way in - flush up to the differential - and moves in/out about 1/8in up against the snap ring.

On the drivers side it "went in all the way" but is still sitting about 1/8 in off of the differential. I removed it and put it back in again but came to rest in the same place. After verifying that the snap ring was engaged I buttoned it all up and drove it - no weird vibrations - but still concerned. Sending my old ones back to CVJ this week - thinking about asking them to rebuild the old one from the drivers side and send it back. Or am I a worry-wart?

I never thought mine seated all the way either, but after tons of off road miles there is no problem or leaking gear oil

Ive done CVs but never 4Runner CVs. I would say that if youre certain the snap rings are engaged and youre not leaking fluid during or after operation then youre good to go.

if its still set out from the diff, will it bind (compress) if the suspension moves up or down? My concern would be lack of room between the diff and hub for proper float.

We did Hepars CVs awhile back and had the same issue. Turns out his re-man'd axle was just a tad too long.
