Back in a Rover: ex-MoD Series III 109

For me, winter always brings the itch for new toys to tinker with in the garage.

Scratching that "itch" resulted in this yesterday:

Ex-MoD Land Rover Series III 109 FFR. It served originally in Africa with the Royal Marines and apparently has had some notable private ownership since. The body has more than it's share of character, but mechanically the truck is very good for it's 35 years. Even better, it has no real rust issues, which is rare for this vintage.

I'm really excited about it...There's a real sense of history to it. I don't plan to change much, if anything cosmetically.

That thing is awesome. There is a younger guy around here with the SUV(?) version of that. I think it was a 4 door, or it was 2 but still quite long.

The civilian Series trucks were made in quite a few configurations including 2 and 4 door wagons. They can also be reconfigured somewhat easily.

Most of the military trucks were the standard, open version like mine.

Took her for a spin this evening to get dinner. Slow and loud, but fun!

The old bias ply Gateway Buckshot Mudder tires have got to go. I was hoping I could tolerate them for a while because they just look right on the truck, but that ain't happening.
