Bad day for my 4runner....

So there I was driving down I-74 west on my way to work this morning during inclement winter weather. I left almost an hour earlier this morning for my one hour commute to work. Taking it slow at about 40 mph in 4hi, I even had people pass me. That still didn't stop what was about to happen. Next thing I know I lost traction from my rear wheels and started to slide towards the center (which in retrospect I would've much rather just gone straight and off the road that way). I remained calm and tried to gain control of the vehicle. It seemed almost as if the vehicle had just given up, and there was nothing I could do to get back on track. I went off the right side of the road into a steep incline.....

Then rolled once or twice (I can't really remember).

I haven't had the chance to see the damage yet, but I'm going to remain optimistic for the time being.....

I hope to restore her back to this one day, but that might be wishful thinking....

Oh by the way I was fine. I hit my head on the left side, and received a minor gash, but otherwise I walked away from it.

Damage doesn't look to bad. You could probably restore it. I'm glad you made it out ok, especially since you were driving as safe as you could. These trucks are beasts. I t boned a women while going about 50 on a main road. Totaled her van. Messed up my front bumper.

Sorry man. Worse case scenario, keep it as a trail rig, or sell it to someone who will. Don't let that beautiful 5 speed 4runner go to waste!

GAH! Seems like yesterday that you just got those wheels and cleaned up your 4Runner real nice! :ak472: So sorry to hear this...

Yeah Adam told me earlier today. Sucks man!! That thing is toast! Unless you want a convertible. Hopefully you can get some useful parts off it for your next runner. Glad you are ok, but your a marine, that is like a walk on a beach.

i also lost control this morning on a patch of ice i didnt see (no snow just black ice, but regained control) im glad your truck kept you safe as i hope it would do for me if i would have went off the road

I still can't believe it....sucks donkey balls for sure. Have you gotten it home yet? If nothing else, maybe you can part out a good portion of it, and try and recoup some of your money and get another one. Like I was saying yesterday, at least you're ok and the runner did its job of keeping you safe. Let me know if you need any help....I'm off for a bit of time the next few weeks.

Dude - not at all surprised that this could have happened; my wife, myself and the kidlet drove from Fort Leonard Wood, MO to Richmond, VA yesterday. We left at 3 a.m. Central time. We hit snow around Evansville, IN - and the snow DID NOT STOP until freakin' VIRGINIA. And through all of West Virginia it was even worse than that.

Suffice to say that I am insanely happy that I got new brakes, tires AND steering guide/anti-sway bar bushings ahead of time. They made ALL the difference in the world.

Just glad you're safe - you can always fix a 4Runner or buy a new one, but doing that with life is a bit tougher.

I updated this thread with some photos of the truck after it was towed home.

I've been thinking about buying another, swapping everything over (maybe even including the 5-spd), but that's too early to say. I've also contemplated cutting the roof off, installing a roll cage and a canvas top.

Yes, I opened it to get some stuff out of the back, and didn't feel like closing it.
