Battery hooked up backwards

So, I was in a rush. My battery finally died and I had a new one sitting in the garage about the same size. Unfortunately, I didn't check the signs and when I hooked it up sparks and such. I had no power at all after putting a new battery in. I replaced the dome and stop fuses. All other fuses are good. No crank. It doesn't even make a sound.. I get headlights interior light and door ding but not much else. Please help, merry Christmas.

Agree. Luckily there is a main fuse to help prevent a lot of damage. I believe the owners manual will tell you where it is

Mine is located in the fuse box on the left side of the hood. 20 amp I believe, but too full of food to be 100% sure at the moment.

After closer inspection, the 100 amp alt fuse blew. I don't think I have to this

But something similar. Looks like I can just box wrench it out and replace. Will do in the morning and update. Thanks for the help

Yeah it's better that this fused popped than all your electronic in your truck blow up, if not for this fuse it coulda been ugly.

Ok good news. Replacing the 100 alt fuse worked. I had to looses the fuse box and separate the bottom to acces the 10mm on the right and 8mm on the left. New battery, new fuses...I'm going for a drive

That happened to me too a few years back. It was a very cold winter morning so many cars in our parking lot wouldn't start but my car did. As I was warming it up a girl asked me to jump start her car. Neither of us had jump start cables so I replaced her battery with mine and started her car.

While she was thanking me and such her BF hooked up my battery backwards while the car was still idling. Many fuses were blown including the main 100Ah one.

My battery died soon afterwards, keep an eye on yours.

i don't think op has to worry about the battery, since his truck wasn't running, so it was simple as a wire melting instead of electrical surges going through the battery.

I recently did the same move, was in a rush and blew fuses. We were at camp so I shoved a wire in the 120 amp fuse and drove home, on my way home I noticed I had little power, the pedal was halfway to the floor. Since I've checked all the fuses and replaced the 120amp, still have a lack of power!
Someone please help I can't imagine what would cause this

Need more info on your truck - year, engine, transmission, trim level? Have you checked all your fuses?

I did this last year, main fuse, fuel pump fuse, dome lights, alternator, a few other small ones and one of the relays blew

Whats the voltage at the battery when car is running? Should be between 13-14.5v.
