Battery Light + Whine + Low Idle + New Battery

iim surprised you didn't try upgrading the wires while everything is out. just a new positive lead at 4 gauge minimum should help with the added accessory, I do 1 or 0 gauge. and also new grounds. basically the big 3 with the battery out so you have extra room.

good thing on the 4.0 v6, its so easy to change the alternator. just take out the battery, take out the belt and 3 14mm bolts, unclip a few things and move a harness bracket out the way, I think a total of another 5 10mm bolts. also the engine cover.

so what alternator did you end up using? I still have the oriley special just incase.

Never really considered upgrading the wiring. Mods with electrical needs aren’t in the near future for me... the most I would go at this point is with a couple LED cubes out back for reversing and maybe two up in the bumper.

And I KNOW about the 4.0. My buddy with a last gen Taco came to help me get it started and drive home. While he was over I poked my head under the hood and got super angry. His oil filter - right on top. Alternator - right on top.


But then I remembered I have two more cylinders and I shut the hood [emoji6]



I used a Denso alternator from RockAuto.

Somehow I didn’t see this video, but yeah it’s pretty spot on. I didn’t unbolt both sides of the sway bar, but it’s only
two more bolts so it’s not that much more work.

Battery Light gone now, but why?

Guys I have a 2008 Sport V8 - my battery light started coming on a few days ago. first it was just when it was idling, but then it was on most of the time unless my RPMs were up a little. So last night I checked the number 26 Fuse which is the Alternator fuse in the Engine bay fuse block. I pulled it out and checked it (the 7.5 amp fuse) it was good so I put it back in. Then oddly enough today, the battery light was fine... not on at all anymore even at idle and I tested the voltage at the terminals at idel and it's pumping out 13.43 volts and the battery is at like 12.6 while off, so the battery is also fine.

Could it be that just reseating that fuse could have solved the problem? Any ideas? is 13.43 volts at idle ok?

Stuart, either your alternator is failing or the battery is. Maybe both. The fuse has nothing to do with your battery light.
