Bedlined my '94 4Runner! Also, a few tech questions...

So, I got a '94 4Runner that was in pretty rough shape a couple weeks ago and have been working hard on it to get it reliable. Posting some before and after photos of the paint. Paint color is Desert Sand Pearlcoat, to match my TJ. I still have some bumper work to do (going to be fabricating my own), but is pretty straight considering I got it next to nothing.

Well, it has the crappy 3.0 in it and am sitting on Craigslist waiting for the right 3.4 to come up. In the meantime, I have the infamous code 52 knock sensor CEL. It was running like garbage and had incredible power loss. If I slowed down too quick it would shut off and afterfired. Well, I replaced with an OEM knock sensor, pigtail and harness. Lo and behold it no longer spits and sputters and I don't notice any power loss, but the knock sensor code comes up after it's warmed up still and is running super rich.

I have a million threads bookmarked on the knock sensor issue, but all seem to just point to the same things I have already done. Does anyone have any fresh, or not so fresh, ideas of what might be happening? Anyway, I appreciate any help I can get.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I have been searching on craigslist for a truck for a LONG time now, and whenever I see bedlined trucks, the don't appeal to me for whatever reason. Yours looks amazing and all nice and smooth. If you know yet, is bedliner on the whole vehicle very durable and does it come clean very easily? I do love the bedliner on your truck!

Thanks for the replies! So I may need to swap the ECU? Hmm...I think I have one somewhere. The TJ is a 2000 Sahara, in the process of swapping with a Ford 8.8 rear and Dana 44 front, 4.56 gears, 4" lift, SYE, 33" Wranglers, also being bedlined the same color (it's already Desert Sand). Also in the process of putting in a 318 that I had from a Grand Cherokee that i got at an auction. The previous owner over-honed the cylinders and it broke three piston skirts in the l6, best thing that ever happened to it.

Good eye on the Willys! That's a '47 I believe and is being thrown on Dana 60's, 40" tires, cantilever suspension, center driver seat with a Ford 460. It's for the Tuff Truck comp. Funny, sanding down that Willys how many colors it had been...blue, teal, orange, maroon, OD green, gray, and black! Was sitting in some bushes in a field...friend of mine pulled it out and it actually started after 10 mins of tinkering.

[MENTION=104713]BigStrap[/MENTION], you liner job does look good. Did you put a coat of clear on it as well? If so, let me know how well it stands up over some time. I noticed when I cleared mine, it was A LOT easier to keep clean but I did a lot smaller area than what you have done.

Thanks! I did not clearcoat it. We mixed the UV stuff with the liner to prevent fading, wasn't really thinking of ease of cleaning. I will let you know in the future how it holds up!

We are testing multiple liners to see how each holds up. The black is Defender, the tan is Raptor (hot), and we have a shipment of Armadillo coming in soon, which will go on the TJ. I have tried Herculiner and Linex before, but didn't like the texture of Herculiner and Linex was very nice, but not very economical.

No worries. Thanks for the compliment! We heated the liner up to 100* F (tested with laser) after applying to give it a smoother texture. Funny you should ask about durability...forgot to click the hood latch before test driving (was replacing the knock sensor) and the hood flew back so hard it snapped a windshield wiper off and bent the hood brackets. When we closed it to drive home, it scraaaaped down off the bezel, but it after getting it home in the light, there was only a very small nick that did not go all the way through. This was only a day after painting it and was not fully cured (takes about a week). We have another truck that is lined the same way, but OD green and it is wheel hard and dogs that regularly jump into it. We have not witnessed any damage so far, any claw marks are easily wiped off.

Defender pro has been my favorite Berliner at my shop. Plus the epoxy helps with the durability of it. Good looking rig so far. Good luck with the CEL.
