Well my spring break was last week and with no vacation plans i took the opportunity to do a little bit of work. I arrived at my parents house late on saturday night but got started early sunday morning the first step was to completely gut the interior and take the top off for the first time...

Shortly after taking this picture i got the brilliant idea that i should sand the entire car and take it to maaco to get a cheap paint job done. 2 days later when i was still sanding with my one air sander and a really small air compressor i started to regret having this idea of a having a painted 4runner. But i pressed on and instead of taking it to get painted i got another brilliant idea that i would just paint it. Once i realized i didnt have the equipment for that that i just decided that i would spray paint it and call it a day.

I first sanded the whole car with 80-grit then moved to 150, 220, 320, 400 after the last sanding i put on 2 coats of duplicolor Truck Van and SUV primer which i then sanded with 1000 grit sandpaper to smooth out any rough spots. The color i chose was Duplicolor T200 pure white which is kind of a pearl white. after applying 4 coats i sanded it with 1500 grit sandpaper until it was nice and smooth. I then applied 3 coats of Duplicolor clear coat. I then put herculiner along the bottom of the entire vehicle and in the bed.

After the herculiner dried on saturday i was able to start in on the interior. I put brand new black carpet upfront. i built and covered the rear panels with black vinyl that i had picked up at a fabric store. i also added some 4x6 speakers by the rear seats to go along with the 6x9's in the rear.

When i was coming up with all the ideas i wanted to do it sounded like alot less work in my head. After getting started i started to get really worried that i wouldnt have everything done on sunday for me to drive it back to school. I worked every day from about 9 in the morning to about 2a.m. Next time im going to make sure i have alot more time. Up close the paint doesnt look like it was a spray paint job i think all the prep work helped it turn out this well. im pretty happy with it!!
