Best 285/70/17 for off road and mpg

I took no mileage hit going from 245/75r16 P-rated Big-O Bigfoot tires to 255/85r16 E-rated KM2s. Skinnies rock.

Hows the road noise? Has it changed as the tires wear?

I'm leaning toward 255/80s, really can't beat skinnies its the truth.

I didn't notice them being louder than the Bigfoot ATs when I had them installed, and I don't now either (they're about 1/3rd worn). KM2s have a reputation for being fairly quiet (for an MT).

To be fair, they're on a rattletrap of an '85, they could be singing southern Baptist church rock and I wouldn't know it. Also, they're a mud terrain so f*ck noise anyway.

I started looking at the nitto terra grapplers g2 in p rated 285. That looks like a good option.

I don't understand. You are doing mods known to decrease efficiency by 2-4 mpg. Check weight, tread pattern and compound to try to salvage a bit of efficiency. Close tread blocks, lightweight (P rated) and a hard compound will be the most efficient.
There is nothing, short of putting an extended air dam on the front, that will make up for the inefficiency of lifting the truck.

Yeah they don't weigh much as opposed to the BFG Ko2s. It seems more people go with the BFG's though. I hope they are quiet

I have the bfg ko2s in 275 70r16 and theyre pretty quite for an AT. I think any AT will add noise. Im at about 18.5 mpg average. I do mostly city driving with some highway. I go to about 15 average when i tow.

The othet tires i was going to get was the general grabbet at2. Not gonna lie i was hypnotized by expedition overland and seeing what they put them through

I agree. You may see less mpg impact going with a narrow tire such as a 255/80/17, which is just as tall.



Honestly, I'm not a fan of any of your choices. If you were dead-set on 285s, I'd go with a BFG AT, Cooper st maxx, or Toyo AT.

Agreed. 3 excellent choices that are proven on and off road.

I put a 3" OME lift on and am running Toyo R/T 285/70/17. Very quiet, smooth on the road, "0" shimmy. Highly recommend, fill the wells and no rubbing.
