Best gas mieage

I wanted to find out what is the best gas mileage one can get in a 3.4L V6 4x4 4runner in freeway and city.

I used to get 21.5 MPG (best) and average 20.5 MPG when I was in west coast. Now I get 16 MPG (best). All at 72 MPH.

I cleaned the mass air flow sensor in the 4runner yesterday. Now it start right away! didn't try the MPG yet. [After the head gasket repair, my car "toyota sprinter" is doing 40 MPG (106 miles in 2.6 gallons!), and I feel like driving it more often]

What do you guys get for your 4runner?

I get 20, my personal best is 21. I'm trying to get up to 24 but I need to work on my spark plugs, fuel filter, and my air filter. I did just air up my tires to 30 PSI.

I'm right there with you. My next goal is to get to 350 miles/tank on my next few tanks.

Plans for the coming month is cleaning up the TB and MAF along a fuel filter replacement.

Down the road maybe switch to a electric fan set up and intake
 
try 35psi. I couldn't stand any less pressure anyway. Then again I'm more used to passenger car tires, lower profile.
 
40 psi, front & rear bumpers, sliders, roof rack, 285's. 125,000 miles, new plugs, wires. New fuel filter and o2 sensor going in soon.Ultragauge says 15.4 mpg, but that's without a speedo calibration. That's 70% street 30% freeway.
 
I am having off days in the coming weeks. I think I'll change the oil in axles (did about 10K miles ago). 182 K miles right now, think it has the same spark plug wires. Should I replace the wires too? What brand? Denso plugs about 15 K miles. truck has 32 psi.
 
I know a lot of people replace the wires when they do plugs, myself included, but its not necessary unless they start to cause a problem. I just cant help seeing pretty new wires.

I know a few people that do this as well, but do you buy OEM wires each time? I can't stand to buy aftermarket NAPA wires anymore after one of them snapped inside the cylinder well and it took nearly half the day getting the damn thing out.

trust me your bad luck is nothing new. Doesnt matter the wire to me. EXCEPTION- dont get the cheapest wires, especially at oreillys. i forget the brand but they always came back as junk.

Ive had plenty of wires tear/separate the rubber etc on me, no specific make or engine.

True, but these wires that snapped on me were less than 30k and were the NGK that everyone and their mothers put in the yotas and hondas. :l OEM for me
 
I got 22.4 the other day over 130 miles hwy. bald tires 265 at 37 psi. New plugs wires, tb, 65mph most of the way. Usually around 19-20. Hope I can keep it once i'm LIFTED....:girl:
 
Man...I'm getting like 16-17 city, closer to 17 or 18 highway. Sounds like I need to replace my fuel filter, clean my MAF, and check out my spark plugs! Already had the sparkies on my list for the spring, along with diff and t-case oil changes...

oh I've had new wires do the same... the quality of oem isn't any better than aftermarket these days :/
 
my all stock 98 4runner with 265/70r16 and 199k miles got 26mpg on the drive from utah to oregon. so entirely freeway.
otherwise it regularly gets 22 mpg +/-1. 50/50 in town and freeway.
dunlop rovers, mobil1 full synthetic and premium gas. it got 18mpg last tank because we've been letting it warm up extra long due to the cold weather.
FYI, I fill the tank to full every time and divide my tripmeter by how many gallons it takes so it's as accurate as I can muster.
I've been driving it for 5 years, so it's not a fluke.
 
99 with manual tranny, 150k, and getting 15-16 mpg right now. Thats cause it's winter though. Usually get low to mid 20's.

Latest: 17.5 MPG at 80 MPH. You will notice a big RPM drop after changing the rear axle oil.

I get like 15 around town here on long island but much better highway. Had fuel system cleaning done last year over 100k miles.
