Best idea yet for a rear bumper

I'm not a big fan of big heavy rear bumper covers, but this is probably the beset idea I've seen yet. So much functionality added there.... Might even be worth the weight... to have a functioning tailgate....

Front bumper tube protection pretty idea good also. Maybe I should go after them for copying my design as I did that a few years back LOL. That is a joke BTW. I just had to poke fun at the old thread about someone copying a bumper design.

No joke, one of the things I miss the most from my Tacoma is a tail gate that I can use as a table. This is a pretty cool setup. I would want it so that I could drop the tailgate with a single latch instead of one on each side, no swing out, no ladder.

And year, that lo pro front bumper looks pretty good. Much better looking than the huge full front bumpers, but more protection than the other low profile bumper/winch mounts I've seen.

Something that might actually worth the weight...I mean wait...I mean$!

I've always like their slimline hybrid, but what they did with the front to gain clearance is worth it if you're already adding the weight of the bumper...plus they offer it in aluminum.

There was the old argument that bull bar type bumpers are great for protection against brush etc. but do more damage in an accident than not having it there by being forced into the grill, hood etc.

I was considering mounting a bale spear in my rear hitch to deter tailgaters but decided against it!

I see problems if you dont have a full drawer setup in the rear. Getting cargo out of the back is that much more difficult with an added footish extension. Thats just me though. I like the ladder and wish more bumpers came with side ladders. Just not sure the tailgate is for me.

Who knows. Maybe they'll offer the bumper without the tailgate option. This thing has lots of possibilities. Loving what I'm seeing so far.

I think that FOR ME, the tail gate would get in the way more than I would actually use it.

However, I might be interested is a very basic plain version, no tail gate, no swing out carrier, no ladder. Just a good solid high clearance rear bumper that can handle skidding down rocks during departures.

I do like the added clearance up front. Not thrilled about the rivets or molding but I realize sacrifices must be made when modifying our vehicles.

I like it, love the innovation. SSO makes a good product. Tailgate mounting traction boards would be great for access, having them on the roof sucks. I'm not sure I want to know the weight on that setup, though!

One of the best parts of land cruiser models for quite a few generations is the rear tailgate. I've often considered one on the inside of the gate. But I like this idea too. Looks really functional for me other than adding more crap to swing and move to get into the rear gate. I'm guessing the rear window will get used a lot more.

Have you read that one thread about the new 6th gen? The guy was talking about some of the concepts were barn door style. Methinks its similar to the old LC80 style. I do like that, but I fell in love with the 4runner back when because I could roll down the rear window.

Yup they said in the video that tailgate is included but swingout is an option. Not sure if they will make one without tailgate though.

According to a chat with SSO they have not weighted it but it will be over 350 and "Nothing will be online until next week. It will be in production starting in June and will be done in batches of 10"

over 350 is with the tire, Hi Lift and full Rotopax I hope. Holy Jesus what springs would you use for that much weight if you had a full list of all the other heavy goodies to go along with it

I would expect no noise if the latches hold it well....there is no cantilevered weight like a swing out... I think the best utility of this thing would be the sleeping situation that could be created. Plus anything that is hinged on a vehicle is an ideal candidate for aluminum.

Although it is possible to move the seats forward take out rear seats )and build a flat platform (I did). The tailgate would add a good 1.5 feet and you could come up with some easy setups to seal out bugs and prop the hatch up. Just a lot more possibilities...to setup... Sinks... Quick release vice for repair work... List is endless for camp setups...

The downside with all these though is the weight. But at least this one brings along a serious new form of utility.

Looks like all Land Cruisers since the 40 series have the same basic rear design with a split gate. I had to go check what a 55 had. I've never spend much time in one. I think most of them were also offered with ambulance style doors in non USA models. I tend to like the gate. But it does add some issues - namely it adds a lot more complex door so there's more seals, gaps, etc. And it requires a very rigid body - so it'll still close when you open it and the suspension is flexed. That's why you don't open jeep rear gates on the trail. They often won't close.
